BWU Singles Chart Year-End Roundup: Top 20 Most Successful Singles (#20 - 11)

So the year is winding down, the BWU Awards 2010 are in full swing, and I am still in the processing of posting my complete Looking Back series. There's just one piece missing...

The Top 20 Most Successful Singles of 2010!

Since June, the BWU Singles Chart has been tracking my 30 favorite songs of the week, with points included. Now that the year is almost over (although there is one more chart week of the year), I have decided to list the most successful singles on the chart this year (and of all time).

So, without further ado, here they are (the first part):

20. Just a Dream - Nelly (205 points, 10 weeks, #3 peak)
Nelly made a pretty big comeback this year with "Just a Dream", the first single from Nelly 5.0. The single debuted at #3 in August and spent three weeks in the Top 10, and another four in the Top 20. In his time on the chart, he scored more than enough points to have the most successful song by a male rap artist this year.

19. I Like It - Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull (214 points, 12 weeks, #4 peak)
Enrique Iglesias blew up after years of dormancy with this Jersey Shore-assisted dancefloor stomper. In the chart's first week, it was #4. While it only spent another week in the Top 10, it's longevity helped it cross the coveted 200-point mark by September.

18. Hang With Me - Robyn (216 points, 9 weeks, #1 peak)
This was a good year for Robyn. Grammy nominations, critical acclaim, and #1 placing on the BWU charts with her amazing single "Hang With Me". The song debuted at #9 in late July, as "Dancing On My Own" was descending in the bottom 20's. Two weeks in, in reached #1, snatching it away from Katy Perry. Unfortunately for her, the favor was returned when Hurricane Kylie dethroned her and spent  forever at the top.

17. Whip My Hair - Willow (220 points, 11 weeks, #1 peak)
The queen of hair-whipping had a pretty rough road in the beginning of her chart run. Debuting at #13 in September, Willow spent four weeks spot-hopping in the lower reaches of the chart. Then the video was released and it skyrocketed to the top spot in October. It currently rebounded again after falling in past weeks, proving that you can never really be tired of whipping your hair back and forth.

16. What's My Name - Rihanna and Drake (222 points, 7 weeks, #1 peak)
Rihanna's second single from Loud was definitely unexpected, but much appreciated. Ironically, it debuted at #2, behind Willow and two spots ahead of her other single. It would eventually (by which I mean two weeks later) hit #1 and stay there for two weeks, making Rihanna the second artist to have two number one singles. The song is still burning up the chart, so much so that is the second quickest song to reach 200 points. Can it make it to gold, too?

15. Firework - Katy Perry (227 points, 8 weeks, #2 peak)
Katy Perry is the only artist to have three songs with over 200 points, and therefore the only artist to have three songs on this list. Her latest single "Firework" started off big, coming in at #2 behind Duffy's "Well, Well, Well". Despite losing out at #1, she has remained in the top 15 ever since, including 6 weeks in the top 10, helping her break the 200 point mark so quickly.

14. Hot Tottie - Usher feat. Jay-Z (243 points, 13 weeks, #4 peak)
Usher has four songs that have charted on BWU Singles Chart, more than any artist (besides Rihanna). The superstar was also one of the first artists to land two singles in the Top 10, which he did in August when "Hot Tottie" debuted at #4. The song spent a mammoth eight weeks in the Top 10, more than half of its chart run.

13. Dancing on My Own - Robyn (254 points, 14 weeks, #3 peak)
Robyn's Grammy-nominated "Dancing On My Own" is a clear example of longevity. After a successful run in June and July, which included a peak of #3, the song caught a second wind unlike any other song in the chart's history, rebounding into the top 10. The song spent a majority of its time in the Top 20, racking up 254 points along the way.

12. DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love - Usher (275 points, 13 weeks, #1 peak)
A week or two more, and he would've gone Gold! Alas, it wasn't meant to be, but that doesn't knock an incredibly successful chart run for Usher. After two singles charting and flopping, "DJ" stormed the chart at #4 in June and went to #1 the next week, becoming the first male artist reach the top. Five weeks in the Top 10 led him to the highest chart tally before reaching the Gold level.

11. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry (302 points, 13 weeks, #1 peak)
Katy Perry's second highest placing on this chart is also her first #1 single. "Teenage Dream" lost out to Nicki Minaj's "Your Love" for a #1 debut at the tail end of July, but the next week reached the summit. A six-week top 10 run and a full run that lasted well into October, Katy was able to score a coveted Gold certification in her last week on the chart. It was her second, but it's doubtful that it will be her last.
