BWU Singles Chart Year-End Roundup: Top 20 Most Successful Singles (#10 - 1)

So the year is winding down, the BWU Awards 2010 are in full swing, and I am still in the processing of posting my complete Looking Back series. There's just one piece missing...

The Top 20 Most Successful Singles of 2010!

Since June, the BWU Singles Chart has been tracking my 30 favorite songs of the week, with points included. Now that the year is almost over (although there is one more chart week of the year), I have decided to list the most successful singles on the chart this year (and of all time).

So, without further ado, here are the Top 10:

10. Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars (304 points, 16 weeks, #4 peak)
Bruno Mars' ode to female self-esteem is the second longest-running single chart history, thanks to its unrelenting charm and Mars' spectacular vocal performance. The song entered the charts at #4 in July, lasting all the way to the tail-end of November, racking up enough points to be only the second male artist with certified single.

9. California Gurls - Katy Perry (306 points, 13 weeks, #3 peak)
It should be ironic that her lowest-peaking single is also her most-successful one. However, when you spend six weeks in the Top 10, it kind of makes some more sense. Katy's iconic summer smash reached it's peak in it's third week on the chart, and held on strong after that, becoming the third song in history to be certified.

8. Promise This - Cheryl Cole (307 points, 11 weeks, #1 peak)
Cheryl Cole's debut single entered the charts at #3 during a very competitive period, when Rihanna and Kylie were duking out for chart domination. However, Cheryl bested them both the next week, when she climbed up to #1, keeping Rihanna from a third week at the top. The next four weeks saw her slide to the bottom of the top 10, but then she rebounded big time, jumping all the way to the top for another week. With seven weeks logged in the top 10, a brand new Gold cert, and still going strong through the Christmas, Cheryl is promised a firm placing on the all-time chart for a while.

Five women lay on on striped towels on a beach. Each is wearing a different colored short dress. Above them, written in the sand, is the name of the group (The Saturdays) and the name of the single (Missing You).
7. Missing You - The Saturdays (309 points, 11 weeks, #1 peak)
The Saturdays debuted at #1 in June, becoming the first artist to do so, and the first group to have a #1. Even though they only stayed there for a week, being dethroned by Kylie, they proved their staying power. They spent nine of their eleven weeks in the Top 10, scoring a Gold certification for their hard work.

6. Love The Way You Lie - Eminem and Rihanna (313 points, 14 weeks, #6 peak)
Eminem and Rihanna's domestic violence duet is the most successful single to never enter the Top 5. The song debuted and peaked at #6, the same week the chart officially began. It spent weeks afterward hopping around the lower reaches of the chart before it re-entered the Top 10 in August after the video release. The song spent three weeks at #9, amassing 81 points during the time, more than enough help it reached Gold before exiting in September

5. Alejandro - Lady Gaga (336 points, 13 weeks, #2 peak)
This summer saw a battle brewing between Lady Gaga and Kylie over who could last longer in the Top 10. Ultimately it was "Alejandro" which was victorious, with nine weeks logged. The ABBA-esque track is the most successful non-#1 single in history because of it.

4. All The Lovers - Kylie Minogue (369 points, 14 weeks, #1 peak)
What Kylie has over Gaga, though, is an extra week on the chart. That, and three weeks at #1, a record until she later broke it with another of her singles. The romantic electro-ballad started the chart at #1 and held on for dear life, hanging on well into September. It remained the most successful chart single for weeks after it's demise, and even though it's not now, "All The Lovers" has solidified Kylie's status as queen of the BWU charts.

3. Only Girl (In The World) - Rihanna (383 points, 11 weeks, #1 peak)
If anyone could challenge the #1 on this list, it's this dance stomper. Rihanna had a dismal chart placement earlier this year with "Rockstar 101", but she quickly redeemed herself with "Only Girl", debuting at #1 and staying there for two weeks. Eleven weeks in and the song has yet to leave the Top 10, becoming the second quickest song to reach Gold. With it's continued play fluctuation, Rihanna could likely remain the only girl well into 2010.

2. Your Love - Nicki Minaj (396 points, 14 weeks, #1 peak)
If you looked at the first part of Nicki's chart run, it would've been easy to give up on her. She debuted at  #12 in the chart's first week, and then disappeared the next. She re-entered the next week at #16, and then rose to #12, and then dropped again to #16. Just when it seemed like she was done, she shot up to #9, and then to the top. Nicki would go on to spend seven weeks in the Top 5 alone, helping her amass enough points to dethrone Kylie's "All The Lovers" as the most successful single in chart history, for a time....

1. Get Outta My Way - Kylie Minogue (631 points, 21 weeks, #1 peak)
...as if Kylie would let that stand. The Aussie pop diva had another single on deck to reclaim her throne. Not only did she reclaim, she set a whole new standard that would require a lot of time to surpass. Kylie debuted at #1, and held on in the Top 5, cooling her heels before her real domination. On the August 16th chart, she returned to the top and stayed there for an unprecedented four weeks. After a brief detour caused by Rihanna and Cheryl Cole, Kylie returned to the top for a third time, a feat unmatched. Kylie spent seventeen weeks in the top 10, which helped her gain a Platinum certification. She is the first and only artist to do so, and will be for a very long time. "Get Outta My Way" is the crown jewel in Kylie's kingdom of BWU. Something tells me she will continue her reign into next year, as well.
