2008 BET Awards: The Highlights

Yesterday was the 2008 BET Awards, and quite frankly, it was a bit disappointing (not as bad as VMAs, though). There were some amazing performances that must be noted:

The best of the night was Alicia Keys and her tribute to 90s girl groups. After performing her new single "Teenage Love Affair", she brought out SWV to sing their number-one hit "Weak". After that, En Vogue (ALL 4 original members) came out sang their hit "Hold On". Finally, TLC came out and sang "Waterfalls".

I loved this performance. Seeing SWV, En Vogue, and TLC together reminded me how good music was last decade. It was really good seeing the original members of En Vogue together, including the amazing Dawn Robinson. All of the performances were great, although T-Boz was a bit raspier than usual. I have heard she was sick, so get better T-Boz! Overall, it was EASILY the best of the night (BTW, did anyone wish the cameras would go over to Usher and see his reaction? I did).

The other noteworthy performance of the night belonged to Ne-Yo. While contemporaries Usher and Chris Brown (save for a later post) delivered boring performances, Ne-Yo brought it out like never before. His performance was sleek and cool, much like himself. It made me remember that "Closer" was a great song (it made me revise the charts for this week).
