Amy Winehouse Dead at 27

British news sources, including the BBC and the Daily Mail have confirmed the shocking news that British soul singer Amy Winehouse has died at the age of 27.

According to the Daily Mail, Winehouse was found in her London apartment at 11am EST, and there is no reported cause of death.

Winehouse had been struggling to get her career back on track after the mammoth success of her 2008 album Back to Black. There have been reports as of late of her lackluster performances fueled by her drug abuse. There is no news as to how drugs may have contributed to her death.

Despite her tabloid troubles, Amy Winehouse was an extraordinary talent who was certainly taken from us much too soon. May she rest in peace, and may her music remain a true standard of modern pop music.

Why is her label letting perform while she's like this?

Amy Winehouse, after two so-so performances at Glastonbury and Nelson Mandela's birthday concert, appeared on stage again, this time at Rock in Rio in Spain.

With a glass of wine on stage, Amy warbled her way through 8 songs, including Download of the Day "Valerie" and my personal favorite " Back To Black".

I have been searching for this performance, and I found it!

Amy Winehouse performed at Nelson Mandela's birthday concert today, and surprisingly, wasn't a disaster.

She performed "Rehab" and "Valerie" despite revelations that she was suffering from the early stages of emphysema last weekend.

When she performed "Rehab", she looked and sounded bored (I'm sure a part of her regrets making that song now). She kind of didn't sing some of the words, but her voice was in pretty good shape. It wasn't as good as the Grammys, but it was MUCH better than Rock In Rio.

Things changed when she sang "Valerie". She looked more lively and she she put far more energy into the song than she did the last. Dare I say it, it was actually a really good performance. It definitely exceeded my expectations (although it should be said there were very low).

I hope this performance signals a changing in tides for Amy. I won't call it a comeback, but it definitely showed she still had something.

The Amy Winehouse Tragedy

Today, the chronicles of Amy Winehouse had a new chapter added to it when her father revealed that his extremely talented daughter had developed emphysema, a serious, irreversible lung disease that makes breathing very difficult. The cause of the tragic illness? Amy's crack use.

Mitch Winehouse told UK newspaper the Sunday Mirror of Amy's serious health issues, revealing his daughter only had 70% lung capacity and that her lungs were "gunked up" because of her repeated drug use. The doctors she spoke to told her that if she continued with her lifestyle, she would be confined to a wheelchair with a permanent oxygen mask to facilitate her breathing. The other possibility would be death.

Death. If one word should affect the 24-year old more, it should be that one.

What's even more shocking is that just February, she seemed to be getting things on track. She was in rehab, she had fixed her teeth, and she performed via satelite from London at the Grammys, where she picked up 5 awards. The Amy many saw accepting Record of the Year was grateful and happy one, running into the arms of her background singers after announcement was made in LA. It made you think that Winehouse was finally ready to clean up her act and do what she did best; sing.

Yet, here she is. Struck with emphysema, it seems like the party could very well be over for Amy Winehouse. If she continues with the drugs and the smoking and the rest of her unexplainably self-destructive behavior, she could be dead by the end of the year, if not sooner. Like Marvin Gaye and Kurt Cobain before her, music would be robbed of someone who could've been a visionary.

However, its not necessarily the end. Amy Winehouse could finally clean up her act, and although she may not be the way she was, she would still at least be alive. Despite her heavy crack use, I believe Winehouse still has something to say about the world she lives in.

Let's just hope she'll live long enough to sing it.

The Best "Don't Let A Loss Get To Your Heart" Songs (Part 1)

The title comes from a friend of mine (who shall remain nameless, lol) and the songs are pretty much songs you should listen to whenever you're feeling down. Whether you want to wallow in despair or lift yourself up from the ashes, there's something here:

"Fix You" by Coldplay - I have just begun discovering Coldplay, and this song almost immediately stuck out to me. It is a somber, yet uplifting song allowing to remember that we all aren't irreparably broken.

"Hometown Glory" by ADELE - This song is absolutely beautiful. It just seems perfect for a bus or train ride home after a difficult day. Although she is singing about London, I feel like this song could applied to any city, especiallyh my "hometown" of New York

"Better In Time" by Leona Lewis - Like I wasn't going to slip a Leona song in here, lol. Seriously, it's a great, uplifting song about surviving a bad break-up. Even if the lyrics don't get you, the powerhouse singing it definitely should.

"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day - Grammy-winning perfection. "Boulevard" is one of Green Day's best songs, because the lyrics are personal, making them easy to connect to. It's a terribly moving song.

"Ugly" by the Sugababes - Have you ever been teased, made fun of. Ever wonder the perfect comeback? Listen to this song. Not only does it give you a good quip, it reveals a bit about human nature. The girls' harmonies are seamless in this song, making it a very pretty track; one of their best.

"Hollywood's Not America" by Ferras - There was a reason the song was chosen as the American Idol goodbye song before Ruben came along. The song with a story is a somber, wonderful song that fit perfectly with a dejected contestant going home in defeat.

"Tears Dry On Their Own" by Amy Winehouse - You would never think this was a sad song if you listened solely to the melody. The Motown- sound, ripped right out of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", masks the pain in the lyrics. Then, there is Amy's voice, rich in soul and passion, reminding you about the song's lyrical content. If you're looking for a double whammy of joy and sorrow, here's your song.
