Download of the Day 10/13: "Breathe Me" by Sia

By today's standards, this song might be considered ancient. Yet, there are some songs that are timeless.

Australian pop singer Sia has had a pretty busy year. She released a new album this past year, We Are Born, and she collaborated with Christina Aguilera on her album Bionic. Unfortunately, she hasn't met the kind of mainstream success that she certainly deserves. Despite her low profile outside of Australia, many people know her music, maybe without even realizing it. Any fan of HBO series Six Feet Under could easily recognize the song "Breathe Me" from the show's iconic series-ending sequence. While the images on the screen were affecting in their own right, it was the powerful crescendo of the production, deep lyrics, and Sia's haunting vocals that gave the scene it's emotional wallop. Even though it had nothing directly to do with the eventual end of life, the sentiment given in the song's chorus is so universal, so simple, and so human that it could be applied to virtually any situation and create the same powerful results.

Sia and her amazing "Breathe Me" are forever immortalized by Six Feet Under, but you can't help but wish that there was a greater audience for such a deep, moving song.
