Oh my gosh! Usher is back!
After the disappointment of Here I Stand and the lukewarm reception of his last few singles, R&B superstar Usher has released a single that will easily return him to the top. "OMG" is the first international single from Raymond vs. Raymond and, despite the release of "Hey Daddy", the single is burning up iTunes in the United States. That's because (alongside his awesome performance on American Idol) "OMG" is the first legitimate R&B club banger of the year, and surely his best since 2004's epic "Yeah!". The song features Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, which may be where the techno slant comes from. It's following a trend, but "OMG" has a surprising "grown and sexy" feel to it that won't make his older fans feel ridiculous listening to it. That is comforting, even refreshing, considering his very public association with teen star Justin Bieber, and the overall state of R&B these days.
This song is the perfect re-introduction of Usher to the global pop stage, and it also serves as a reminder that, amongst all of the pretenders to the throne, he is the premier male in pop music right now.
