America is known for its disconnection from the rest of the music world, creating an near-impossible gap for international artists to reach the US charts. But what about for US artists who are more successful overseas?Kings of Leon are actually from Tennessee, but you wouldn't know that from their chart success. Their single "Sex On Fire" is a smash everywhere else, including the UK, where it spent three weeks at #1. Yet, it didn't even chart on Billboard Hot 100 here (their album did peak at #5, though). So, why is it that a song so popular everywhere else isn't here?
I honestly don't know , because this song is truly great. I'm not a big fan of rock music, but there is something about "Sex On Fire" that is just awesome. There is an appreciation of rhythm that I've never really heard in rock music before, while still maintaining its identity. Lead singer Caleb's soulful voice adds to that sound, filled with energy and, ironically, fire. It's a song that truly sticks with you, a rarity in a world of pop music toss-aways.
"Sex On Fire" may not be the US hit it should be, but its still one of the best songs of the year, hands down.
