I called it last week.
Mariah Carey scored her record-breaking 18th #1 single this week with "Touch My Body", the first single from her album E=MC2. The jumped from 15 to 1 after selling an astonishing number of over 280,000 downloads. It broke the original record set by Rihanna's "Umbrella" last summer. She was originally tied with Elvis with the most #1 singles at 17. Her last #1 single was 1005, "Don't Forget About Us". TMB makes Mariah the most successful solo artist in US chart history. She is two #1 singles away from the Beatles' record of 20 chart-toppers.
Madonna also had a record-breaking week as well. The diva scored her 37th top 10 single with "4 Minutes" her collaboration with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. This broke another Elvis record, who had 36 top 10 records. Her song charted at #3, vaulting up from a debut of 68. It is her highest charting single since "Music" in 2000.
Congratulations to both!
