Download of the Day 4/29: "Forgive Me" by Leona Lewis

image

Leona Lewis has the distinction of being the second artist in the two month history of this blog to have the most "Download of the Day" posts (Mariah leads with four, including a classic). Why? Because she is awesome!

Her third DOTD focuses on her song "Forgive Me". The song was produced by Akon as a track for the U.S. version of Spirit. Many will recognize the style as the same used for Gwen Stefani's worldwide smash "The Sweet Escape", which was a smart choice. The song is very flirty and fun, perfect for summer. In fact, I can envision the video now (Leona sitting at a club with a couple girlfriends, having fun after a fight with a boyfriend). You can tell Leona had fun making this track; some of her runs and vocal flourishes are rich in personality, something her critics claim she lacks. She has this "Oops, sorry, oh well" attitude while she sings, and its enjoyable to listen to. Honestly, I figured if anyone could bring Leona out of her shell, it would be someone like Akon.

If (and it should be) chosen for the third single (Better in Time will be released in a few weeks), I think people will see a different side of Leona when she performs this one. With "Forgive Me", she can have fun, and its really what she needs to do right now. Why be on the top of the world if you can't even enjoy it, right?
