The Republican Governors of America have called for the resignation of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer after it was revealed in a federal investigation that he was a client of a $3100-an-hour prostitution ring. The Executive Director of the RGA, Nick Ayers, said in a statement that "the American people are tired of corrupt and hypocritical politicians. The governor of New York is just another in the long list of politicians that have failed their constituents".
Before being elected governor, Eliot Spitzer was known for tackling organized crime and, ironically, prostitution rings, as New York's Attorney General.
Now, the question is, will the shamed governor, who did not say he was resigning, give in to pressure and abdicate?
Honestly, I don't believe he should. Yes, he's an adulterer (apparently many times) and a hypocrite, but politicians have done worse. At least he didn't lie about it (a la a certain US President who shall remain nameless). In my mind, the only penance he has to make up is to his probably devastated wife and three children
