Nokia and the Sugababes Team Up For Tragic New Commercial To Promote Their Tragic New Single "Freedom"

I really don't know what's worse, the Barbies doing Beyoncé thigh splits in this commercial, or the song playing in the background of this commercial.

For some reason, girl group Sugababes thought it would be cool to promote their new single "Freedom" in an advertisement for Nokia. It's quite ironic that the two paired up, since both are sinking faster than a boat with a whale-sized hole in it.

Nokia's flopping is for another blog post. Let's talk about the Sugababes for a second.

This is by far the saddest excuse for a single this group has ever released, ever, in their decade-plus long history. It's a cheap knockoff of every Dr. Luke/Max Martin production released since January. Even the dubstep is cheaply used here. Jade's voice is great technically and everything, but it doesn't save this absolute farce of a single.

It boggles my mind that this is the same group that released singles like "About You Now", "Change", and Push The Button".

Okay, those songs were with different members, though. With that in mind, I think its time that they hang it up for good and disband, because if this is what they are selling, this is going to be a pretty embarrassing era for them.

iPhone Follies: Discovering "Change" with the Sugababes (and some help from Subway and Twitter)

If there's one negative word that I can freely admit describes me to the letter. it's "sap".

I prefer words like "sentimental" or "emotional" or "reflective", but I can understand the intent behind it and how it applies to me.

I'm someone who relishes in two things: overanalyzing my life, and a really good ballad. When the two converge into one another, it creates one of those moments of absolute clarity, erasing whatever indecision or doubt I had about the choices in my life.

I just had one of those moments, in the Subway restaurant by my apartment, while I was listening to my Top 200 playlist. I was flipping through my Twitter timeline when I saw multiple mentions of the Sugababes. I was compelled to go to my playlist and pick the highest track of theirs on the list.

That song was "Change".

Released in 2007 from the album of the same name, I regard as one of their best singles. Not just because they sound amazing together, but because the chorus may be one of the best of any girl group ever. It all lies with that killer last line: "Ain't it crazy how you think you got your whole life planned, just to find out it was never ever in your hands...change..."

Hearing that really made me think a lot about the changes in my life, past and future. It's kind of crazy to think about how different my year would've been without the changes I made to my life, like getting involved in SGA, the dynamics of some of my friendships, and getting my first credit card. Lord knows the latter decision ended up being a doozy.

There have been a lot of changes in my life this past year, with both good and bad results. However, I know that all of them have contributed to the person typing on this iPhone at the moment. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but that person isn't too shabby considering everything.

So when I hear that last line, I think about how those changes were meant to happen. How, even if the immediate consequences were good and bad, it all worked out in the long run for me, and it will continue to do so.

I guess you can interpret that whole thing, and the Sugababes song for that matter, as a commentary on fate. Ironically, I believe in fate, but it took Subway, Twitter, and one of the best songs from a hot mess of a British girl group go help me truly understand it.

Told you I was a sap, huh?

Sugababes Drama Continues: Amelle Admitted to Health Clinic!

The meltdown that is the British pop group Sugababes has reached a fevered pitch this week with news that one of the members has been admitted to a health clinic.

Amelle Berrabah, the second newest member who was allegedly responsible for Keisha Buchanan's ouster, is recovering from a "severe bout of nervous exhaustion" at a private health facility. Due to her health issues, she is currently on break from the band.

This spells bad news for the ever-changing girl group, whose album Sweet 7 is due next month, as is their second single "About a Girl".

The exhaustion is most likely caused by the drama of Keisha's exit and replacement by Eurovision singer Jade Ewen. The group was supposed to have their first live performance with her at the Scottish Royal Variety Show, but it was canceled due to legal issues.

The group insists that Amelle's short break will not affect the group at all and they are not disbanding.

Considering what all of this muck is causing, financially and apparently health-wise, wouldn't that be best, though?

Song Review: UK Girl Group Sugababes Get Lazy With "Get Sexy"

After the shockingly disastrous reaction to their album Catfights and Spotlights, the Sugababes have come back from a long recording session in Los Angeles with their new single, called "Get Sexy". They hope that this song will bring the girls back to the top of the charts and even score them some US success (they recently signed to Roc-A-Fella Records) by returning to their dance-pop roots.

And what a return it is; "Get Sexy" is their most danceable track since "Hole in the Head". Thanks to its synthy, GaGa-like sound, courtesy of the up-and-coming The Smeezingtons, it is guaranteed to fill up the clubs. However, it is also their most uninspiring, and blatantly lazy single ever.

Lyrically, its essentially about how sexy they are, which may be true. However, it gets kind of repetitive after the first 200 times they sing it. What's just bordering on pathetic is the sample from the iconic and cheesy 90's song "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. I mean, off all the songs in the world, why that song? What's next, a song sampling "The Macarena"? The most interesting part of the song is the intro, which is inspired by Michael Jackson's 1988 single "Another Part of Me". After that, the song quickly melts into the huge, post-MJ pot called typical.

By the time Amelle sings "If I had a dime, for every single time, these boys stop and stare, I'd be a billionaire", you just want to yell at the girls, "we get it! You're sexy!"

Why don't you prove that you can make music that is a bit more interesting, instead?

WORST: Miranda Cosgrove BUTCHERS Sugababes Classic "About You Now"!

In an attempt to steal Miley Cyrus' faux-rock tween queen crown, Drake & Josh and iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove has tried a hand at a pop career.

Her first single is a cover of the Sugababes' smash "About You Now". I can sum it up in one word; hideous.

She strips the catchy electro-pop sound away and replaces it with teen pop's biggest cliche: the "hard rock" sound. She basically destroys a perfect piece of pop and turns it into a typical angsty teen piece of nothing. Plus, Keisha, Heidi, and Amelle can sing circles around this girl. Her voice sounds so thin compared to the amazing original.
