BWU Awards 2012: Gotye, Frank Ocean, and Adele Win Big

After a month of voting, the results for the 2012 BWU Awards are in!

Gotye proved to be the year's big winner, claiming five categories for his song "Somebody That I Used to Know." The smash hit won Best Male Single, Best International Single, Best Collaboration, and Best Rock/Alternative Single. Gotye himself tied with British boyband One Direction for Best New Artist.

R&B singer Frank Ocean topped off a banner year with four wins, for Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Male Artist, and Best R&B Single, which was a tie with Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You". Album of the Year proved to be his least contentious category, scoring 33% of the vote.

Frank was close to winning Artist of the Year, but ultimately lost out to Adele. The British singer won three other awards: Best Female Artist, Best Female Single, and Best Ballad, for her James Bond single "Skyfall." Best Female Single was another tie, with Demi Lovato's hit "Give Your Heart a Break."

The last tie came for Best Pop Single, where Rihanna's "Diamonds" and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" led the choices. In terms of the Music of 2012 as a whole, a winning quarter of voters thought it ranked four out of a possible five points.

BWU AWARDS 2012: Rihanna, Gotye, Frank Ocean, and One Direction Lead Nominations!

After a one year hiatus, the 2012 BWU Awards are back!

Voting goes until December 30th, but don't let that stop you from choosing your favorite music from the past year now!

Pop queen Rihanna scored seven nominations, the most this year, for her latest album Unapologetic and "Take Care", her duet with Drake. Australian indie artist Gotye ties her with seven nods, all spawned from his monster hit "Somebody That I Used To Know".

This year's breakout Frank Ocean scored six nominations, including Artist of the Year, for his landmark debut album (and future Grammy nominee) channel ORANGE.

British boy band behemoth One Direction also scored six nominations for their debut album Up All Night. Also claiming six nominations is Adele, thanks to her James Bond soundtrack smash "Skyfall".

On the international front, British girl group Girls Aloud score four nominations for "Something New".
