iPhoned In: Michael Jackson and Current Fashion

In the days after Michael Jackson's death, I have heard people referring to him as a style icon. While he did have his own distinct fashion, based off army dress, I didn't really see his influence in that particular area. Sure, people have been wearing the MJ jackets and the glove, but his mark on everyday looks wasn't that obvious.

Then I realized that virtually every man in the country has a military style shirt in their closet. Hell, I'm wearing one as I type this. While I'm sure will deny it, MJ was the first to wear the shirt with the straps over the shoulders (it can be seen in his infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey from 1993).

So while Michael gave us the glove, the red leather jacket, and other iconic fashion items, he has also infulenced current style as well. Quite the accomplishment for someone people thought was washed up.

And yet, instead of honoring such acheivements, we're speculating about his poor kids and financial problems.
