Not only is Britney Spears' new single premiering on Tuesday, but Verizon is also holding a special media event in New York City to make a huge announcement.
The announcement? The long-rumored iPhone, of course.
Yes, barring any red herrings, Verizon will finally introduce the iPhone to their network, after years of heavy speculation about the partnership. Apple and Verizon were always expected to work together after the iPhone took off in 2007, but Apple's exclusivity agreement with AT&T made any partnership impossible. Last year, the agreement expired, allowing Apple to work with other US carriers, especially Verizon, which reportedly has the best service in the country.
The first signs of a partnership came at the end of last year when Verizon announced that they would be bundling the iPad with their MiFi device, making Verizon iPhone all but an inevitability.
Although it is not an official Apple event, technology blog All Things Digital is reporting that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be making a cameo appearance at the event, possibly to explain details of the phone, which may face retooling to fit with Verizon's CMDA network (the current iPhone lineup is made to work with GSM networks, like AT&T).
Are you excited about the possibility of an Verizon iPhone?
