Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson opens up about her family tragedy |
In October of 2008, Jennifer's mother, brother, and nephew were brutally murdered. After months of seclusion, she made a spectacular return to public life, but never directly spoke about the tragedy. For the first time, in an episode of VH1's Behind The Music, Jennifer shared the devastating experience.
"It's all a blur," Jennifer says in the interview. "It was surreal. I was outside of myself".
According to Jennifer, she hid herself away for two weeks in a room to escape the persistent media and to make sense of the senseless tragedy. Ultimately, she says, she knew she had to press forward, as that is what her mother would want. At this point in the interview, she gets very emotional and has to take a moment.
What helped her cope with the loss was the birth of her son with fiancee David Otunga, David Jr. "Being a mother reminds me of my mother," she shares.
Jennifer has had a banner year so far; she was tapped to play Winnie Mandela in the biopic Winnie, gained a new fantastic figure as the spokesperson for Weight Watchers, and has a new album slated for release in September.
