Download of the Day (1/2/10): Yesterday by Toni Braxton and Trey Songz

What better way to ring in the new year than with a blast from the past?

Toni Braxton's rich, deep, creamy voice helped her ride high in the 90's with massive hits like "Unbreak My Heart". Bankruptcy, illness, and lack of interest all contributed to a serious career dip once the Noughties came around. Now that they are over, the R&B diva is ready to return, and boy, is she coming back with a vengeance!

"Yesterday" is her first single in four years, leading to the release of Pulse, due out next year. The song is an excitingly fierce ballad about a woman kissing her cheating man off. She shares the track with R&B singer Trey Songz, who can definitely hold his own against one of music's most distinctive (and sexy) voices. The production is so refreshing and energetic that I nearly jumped out of my seat when I first heard it. Much like Maxwell did in 2009, Toni is presenting us with that classic 90's sound, mixed to sound modern. It works, as "Yesterday" is her best record since 2000's "He Wasn't Man Enough".

Here's to hoping that the 2010's are better for Toni Braxton, but with a comeback track like this, I doubt that hope is necessary.

RATING: 8.5 OUT OF 10
