You can't get much better than Alicia Keys.
The R&B virtuoso has been one of the leaders of the game since 2001, and she's showing no signs of stopping as she drops her latest album, The Element of Freedom.
The second single from the album is "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart", an epic, 80's style song about surviving a messed relationship. The production of this song is sick, with its captivating mix of choir chords, firm beats, and slinky synths. Musically, it's the interesting song she's released since "No One". The lyrics and Alicia's vocals aren't too shabby either; they're actually just as excellent. Alicia offers up one of her best performances on this song; the husky whispers during the verses are incredibly sexy and she hits high and power notes I didn't realize she had in her.
It should come as no surprise, it being Alicia and all, that the lyrics are thoughtful, deep, and realistic. The subject matter is kind of dangerous when you consider the drama surrounding her and Swizz Beatz, but Alicia is never one to step down. Thankfully she isn't, since we got one of the best R&B singles of the year from it.
