7 Reasons Why Lady Gaga Is 2009's Artist of the Year (and 3 Reasons Why She Might Be Artist of Next Year)

The results for the 2009 BWU Awards aren't out until tomorrow (everything's been tallied though), but it is pretty safe to say that, even if she doesn't win, Lady Gaga is 2009's true artist of the year. Here some reasons why:

1. She gave us five unstoppable pop smashes that essentially owned radio the past twelve months: Just Dance, Poker Face, LoveGame, Paparazzi, and Bad Romance. Sure, the Black Eyed Peas spent 26 weeks at #1, but it was her songs you were humming, whether you liked it or not

2. Her VMA performance of "Paparazzi" was one of the most talked-about of the year (annoyingly, Adam Lambert's AMA performance is the most talked-about)

3. Her VMA outfits (including the infamous white branch crown/hat) were the most-talked about fashion of the year (sorry Oscars)

4. After only 11 months of true fame, Gaga was chosen to close out the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen of England (by the way, she performed on a 12 foot piano)

5. Only Gaga could release The Fame Monster as a deluxe edition and as an 8-song EP and have the deluxe edition sell more

6. "Bad Romance" is the best video of the year by twenty miles, and in the five best videos of the decade

7. Gaga, in literally twelve months, went from a nobody to the most discussed and listened-to artist of the year, while singlehandedly bringing back the idea of the pop superstar a la MJ and Madonna.

And here are 3 reasons why she will continue dominating in the new year:

1. Her new single with queen of the world Beyonce, "Telephone" is being released in February, which means amazing pop-busting video. It'll be #1 easy

2. She is on tour with the Monster Ball Tour, well into May. Gaga is the queen of the stage performance

3. She probably has enough hairbows, bubble dresses, and fashion installations to last at least through June, right?

Congrats Gaga on being 2009's tour de force.
