Song Review: "The Fear" by Lily Allen
Lily Allen has been through a lot this last year. A terrible miscarriage, a break-up, and a slight public meltdown that included a slurred moment with Elton John at an awards show. Somehow, through it all, she was able to record an album.
The album, It's Not Me, It's You, will be her first in nearly three years. Leading the album is "The Fear", an slightly quiet electro-pop song. Yes, Lily Allen has traded Ronson for Xenomania. While it's a different musical style than she's ever done, Allen's trademark, her lyrics, are still there and better than ever. Here she sings about the importance of credit cards, getting naked, all the other great aspects of fame. Her soft but cynical voice isn't drowned out by the warmth of the synths, as some would fear. The two work remarkably well together; both are soft but effective. It makes one wonder that future collaborations wouldn't be much of an insult to music after all.
Lily Allen hasalways been an amazing source for great sarcasm. Now, you can dance to it. What more can you ask for?
