Entertainer Eartha Kitt passed away today at 81, according to her publicist, after a surprising bout with colon cancer.Her death comes as a shock, considering how busy she appeared to be. Six weeks ago, she was filming a special for PBS, with an expected air date of February 2009.
Kitt is an pop culture icon, known for her trademark purr when she sang, most famously on the holiday track "Santa Baby". She also played Catwoman on the TV adaptation of Batman.
