DOTD Album Track: "You On A Good Day" by the Sugababes

Catfights and Spotlights coverThe Sugababes, after a 6 month absence from the pop charts, return with their new album Catfights and Spotlights. While there are some really good tracks, including the lead single "Girls", there is one song that is just perfection.

"You On A Good Day" is the best throwback to the Motown era since "Tears Dry On Their Own" by Amy Winehouse. The song pulls from one of music's golden ages without ripping it off, thanks in part to its modern lyrics. The girls decide to pick apart their boyfriend's many issues, while maintaining their unwavering support to them. The song has some really biting zingers ("You're messed up from your chromosomes to your enzymes"), while still remaining fun, light, airy, and very very cool, like Motown. I know that "No Can Do" is the planned second single, but this song really deserves some serious recognition for continuing the soon-to-be tired 60s revival in style.

Rating: 9.5/10
