UK Download of the Day (7/10): "Girls" by Sugababes

UK pop girl group Sugababes are back with new material, a year after their great Change album was released. Amelle, Keisha, and Heidi (sorta) return to the music world with "Girls", the single proceeding Catfights + Spotlights, due out in October.

Well, it can be safely said this song is nothing like their last few singles, at all. That may be a good thing, because its definitely an interesting track. It has a re-imagined 60's R&B sound, much like other UK music these days (thanks Mark Ronson). Still, it doesn't sound too different that it doesn't fit into the 'babes extensive discography. In fact, it fits pretty well. It sounds a bit like their classic "Freak Like Me". except without synths and with some pretty funky horns and even some drums.

As usual, the vocals and the harmonies are on point, but they focus more on having fun on this song. Lyrically, its very sexy and sassy, another departure from their last album. For a group who claimed they would "never dance again", they sure haven't but those shoes away yet.

The video, above the review, may not be the most artistic (see "Change" or "Denial", but its an instant classic thanks to some hot psuedo girl-on-girl action with Amelle some "interesting segments")

The single will be released on iTunes the 29th of September and in the shops on the 6th of October. Check it out.

BWU RATING: 7/10
