It's been awhile since europop act Cascada has delivered anything really good. "What Hurts The Most" was underwhelming compared to their breakthrough hit "Everytime We Touch". However, their new single, "Faded", changes this around for them.
The second single of the Perfect Day album, "Faded" is actually a song with substance that you could dance to. The song is about a girl who has been changed by her controlling boyfriend, unrecognizable to herself. Usually songs like this are harder-edged, with dramatic vocals. Cascada takes a different approach. "Faded" is a light dance-pop song, a good one at that. It's double-sided; it's empowering and danceable. Natalie Horler, the lead singer, is a good singer, and she sounds very good on this song. What works for her is that she doesn't try to stretch her vocal capacity. She just sings what she can, and she does that just fine.
"Faded" is a great song from one of the most promising crossover acts from the obscure dance genre (the other being Lady GaGa).It may not be as sharp as "Everytime We Touch", but sometimes, light and easy goes a long way.
