It's Official: Will Smith Is The Most Bankable Star In Hollywood

According to Box Office Mojo, Hancock brought in $66 million over the past 4th of July weekend. When those figures are added to the gross from Wednesday and Thursday showings, the movie grossed $107.3 million so far, in only 5 days, even with terrible reviews.

The release of Hancock (check the archive for my review) makes Will Smith the only actor in history to have 8 consecutive movies gross over $100 million. To date, he has a lifetime gross of $2.3 billion, with only 18 films. He is closing in Tom Cruise's lifetime gross, who has brought in $2.7 billion with 28 films.

Will Smith also has the third highest average gross of an actor today, $129 million. Orlando Bloom has the highest average with $207 million and Mike Myers has the second highest with $142 million.

Here is the list of the top 10 most successful actors of all time, by gross:
  1. Eddie Murphy, $3.47 billion
  2. Harrison Ford, $3.40 billion
  3. Tom Hanks, $3.39 million
  4. Robin Williams, $2.73 billion
  5. Tom Cruise, $2.71 billion
  6. Bruce Willis, $2.55 billion
  7. Will Smith, $2.33 billion (he's only been acting for a decade)
  8. Samuel L. Jackson, $2.30 billion
  9. Orlando Bloom, $2.279 billion
  10. Julia Roberts, $2.271 billion
