Classic Download of the Day: Hold On by En Vogue

In celebration of their triumphant return to the music world on Tuesday's BET Awards, I have dedicated a DOTD post to them.

En Vogue, one of the best girl groups ever, have many hits, but there is one classic that sticks out in my mind as their best, their first single "Hold On".

From the acapella intro, the listener knew they were listening to something special. The harmonies were graceful and smooth, and they easily channeled the Motown vibe. A stranger to the song would they would follow through on the throwback, the song jumps into the burgeoning New Jack Swing sound of the day.

"Hold On" is funky, cool, and a perfect example of early 90's music at its true best. En Vogue, after this smash hit #1 on the R&B charts and #2 on the Pop charts, went on to have more success. Their next album "Funky Divas" (perfect description) went multi-platinum and spawned a ridiculous amount of hit singles. Unfortunately, Dawn Robinson left the group and they were never the same.

With their reunion on the BET Awards, rumors are buzzing that there could be a full-blown comeback. I am definitely hoping for one; its time the real girl group come back and show the others how its done (coughDanityKanecough)
