Madonna's Hard Candy Review: Pretty Sweet

                              image

Okay, I am guilty of judging Madonna's Hard Candy the same way I judged Mariah's E=MC2: on a 30-second clip. So, here is an in-depth review of Madonna's newest album!

Candy Shop - This (along with 4 Minutes) is probably the most heavily hip-hop influenced single. It has a nice beat, although I've heard it before, and the lyrics are quasi-sexual, both Madonna staples. It's an okay song; nothing to get hyped about though. 6.5/10

Heartbeat - Another okay song. It's really generic though, as if anyone could've recorded it. The one thing that Madonna songs promised is their originality. At least, some of them. 6.5/10

She's Not Me - At least she's modest! Madonna sings about her ex-lover's girlfriend going all psycho, pretending to be her. The song kind of reminds me of Jessica Simpson's flop single "A Public Affair", but 80x better. 7/10

Incredible - I HATE this song. It's terribly random, and it really throws me off. I would skip this song the minute appears on your iPod. 4/10

Beat Goes On - This song is really fun, and its pretty easy to dance to. Kanye's appearance on the track is nothing to fawn over; just focus on the rest of the song. 7/1o

Give It 2 Me - Another hot song. Although the hip-hop influence is there, its definitely the most-danceable song on the album. 8/10

Dance 2Night - The song is very old-school R&B, and I love it. It's very funky, yet has this 80s, New Jack Swing vibe to it, with a twist. It's pretty hard to explain, but that's a good thing. A really good song tends to leave me tounge-tied. 8/10

Miles Away - It's a cool song, nothing much else said. 7/10

Spanish Lesson - It's the worst kind of filler. It's like Madonna took "La Isla Bonita" and shoves crack up its nose. 4/10

Devil Wouldn't Recognize You - Find DOTD post. 9/10

Voices - It's a very haunting song with a basic beat. It's pretty cool. She keeps up with deepening lyrics with the chorus ender, "Who is the master and who is the slave". Smart song. 8/10

4 Minutes - It was a perfect choice for the lead single. The horns, the beats, Justin. Everything just comes at you at once and you can't help but like it. 9/10

ALBUM OVERALL RATING: 7

FINAL THOUGHTS: There are some HUGE clunkers on this album, but it is still decent enough to buy. I suggest picking up the CD; the 13.99 download price from iTunes is excessive for this album
