On Sunday, Speed Racer was estimated to take in $20 million to claim the second spot on the box office chart. It turns out that the estimates were way too kind.
The $100 million TV adaptation was an unbelievable flop, taking in only $18.5 million from theaters. That number placed it in third place, behind the Ashton Kutcher vehicle What Happens in Vegas. That movie brought in $20 million, with a $35 million budget.
Iron Man did better than expected, bringing in $51 million this weekend, a 49% decrease from last week's huge opening.
