In honor of Mariah Carey week on my blog, I have chosen her song "Forever" as my first Classic Download of the Day.
Pulled from 1995's sensational Daydream album, "Forever" is one of her best songs that should've been released as a single (her record label didn't think the song was strong enough). That was probably because she didn't use her trademark whistle register in the song. Nope, Mariah kept it simple with the ballad, only indulging in a few runs throughout. Of course, she pulled out the stops for the finale, but she restrains her voice the most part, highlighting the beauty of the track.
I believe keeping the track out of the public eye was a disservice to Carey. This song really shuts the critics who accuse her of oversinging down. This song, along with many from the heavily-recommended Daydream, shows what magic Mariah can make when she pulls it back and keeps it simple.
