If You Don't Own It.... Girls Aloud, U2, and Whitney Houston

This is the post where I talk about my favorite songs that if you don't have, you should.

Call the Shots by Girls Aloud - this song solidified their awesomeness for me. It's a pop masterpiece, to say the least. Thanks to interesting lyrics, great melody you can hum (which is missing in music today), and amazing production by Xenomania, "Call The Shots" is easily one of the best songs made by a pop group ever. Plus, the girls are gorgeous. Rating: 9/10

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For by U2 - for many people, U2 are demi-gods. To that effect, The Joshua Tree is their bible, and this song is their hymn. Bono's voice is truly at its best here; rich, powerful, deeply affecting. Their is a reason that The Edge is regarded as one of the best guitarists of all time. I recently rediscovered this song, and I am so glad I did. Its one of the best rock performances ever delivered. Don't believe me? Ask Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Best Songs of All Time. Its in the top 40. Rating: 10/10

I Will Alaways Love You by Whitney Houston - I honestly can't imagine anyone not owning this song. It sold 10 million copies worldwide, second only to Elton John's Candle in the 1997 for the best selling single of all time. Its not about the numbers though. Its the vocals. Its "The Voice", known as Whitney Houston. Originally a Dolly Parton classic, Whitney reworked the song for The Bodyguard Soundtrack, turning it more into pop than country. The arrangement shift allowed her to truly soar with her amazing voice. And boy, did she soar. The big note, in the second half of the song, is legendary. Her voice had never sounded more clear, more powerful. It was a masterclass in singing if their ever was one. Since its 1992 release, many have tried, but little to no one has ever come close to the original Whitney track. The truth is, the song, from the arrangement to the woman singing, is pure genius. This song is a testament to the fact that Whitney Houston is, inarguably, one of the best vocalists in history. Rating: 11/10 (Seriously, if you don't have this song, hop over to iTunes or Amazon or whatever and get it now).

You can't deny the star power that Whitney once had, starting with The Bodyguard.
