Download of the Day 12/16: "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele

Adele's career is rolling in the deep
Adele has been a critical darling ever since she splashed onto the scene with her debut album 19. Top of the BBC Sound poll, Grammys, and acclaim was all laid at her feet. Yet, all of that praise does have it's vices, though. It's usually impossible to match up with the hype, and when there is a sliver of disappointment, they fall drastically from grace.

Then again, this is Adele we are talking about.

The British soul singer successfully avoids the sophomore slump with "Rolling in the Deep", the first single from her upcoming album 21. Adele pushes the blue-eyed soul genre to it's limits, borrowing styles straight from the Motown era for her song about a failed relationship. The production is crisper than anything she's ever released before, and there is even a hook or two floating in the chorus. Her voice, whether leading the verses or backing up the choruses, is in top form. Adele has a unique tone that allows her incredible evocative vocal powers. She doesn't let them go to waste; she can wail and groan, while still sounding absolutely brilliant.

"Rolling in the Deep" is proof that Adele is more than deserving of the universal adoration she's received from critics.
