It's kinda neat that I get to write a DOTD post about someone with the same name as me.
But vanity aside, The Killers frontman and I do have some other things in common besides our common given names. We both have a penchant for genuinely good music, regardless of genre. We also both appreciate independence; he is striking out on his own with a new album due in September.
Finally (as far as I know) we both really, really like his first solo single "Crossfire". I'm only familiar with a few of The Killers songs, but this definitely sounds like a new, gorgeous direction for him. It's an intense and emotional pop/rock ballad that doesn't fall into the "overwrought" trap that other songs do. The melody is just excellent, and the lyrics are so ace that it would be so easy to strip this song into memorable quotes for Facebook. As for Flowers himself, he had one of the most powerful voices in pop music today, which is saying a lot in this AutoTuned world we live in. Actually, with that in mind, this good old-fashioned song is a revelation.
Going solo is certainly difficult, but Brandon Flowers appears to be doing just fine. And as a fellow Brandon, I take immense pleasure in saying that.
