And you thought she was a one-hit wonder, didn't you?
Nope, singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles, famous for the 2007 megahit "Love Song", is back with a brand spanking new album, ready to conquer the airwaves with her quirky blend of pop and soul. The single leading off Kaleidoscope Heart is "King of Anything". The song has a lot more in common with "Love Song" than you would think. Both of them are ironic in the sense that they are bright and shiny pop songs, with a big "screw you" mentality leading it. Both are about defiance, although "King of Anything" is a bit more about being self-sufficient and rejecting the prince in shining armor motif. Bareilles' pop gift has always been to embed messages of empowerment within highly listenable melodies, and she has only gotten stronger.
While matching, if not surpassing, the runaway success of "Love Song" will be a fairly difficult feat, she definitely does deserve the opportunity to top the charts again.
