Lots of Leona: Golden Globes, Avatar, X Factor, and the Building Disaster That Is Her Next Single Releases

Her second album is flopping, but this past week has been filled with Leona Lewis news, so I'm combining it in a megapost.

First off, Leona Lewis is on the fast-track to singing at the Academy Awards next year: her song "I See You" for the Avatar soundtrack was chosen at Best Original Song at the 2010 Golden Globes. The music video for the song was also just released yesterday, which you can check out after the jump. Although I was expecting more from director Jake Nava, Leona looked absolutely flawless and it really has me pumped for film, out on Friday.

It is also time for Leona's new single, after the disastrous performance of "Happy". I liked the song, but I could admit that choosing that as the lead single was a complete asshole decision and effectively killed all starting momentum for the album (thanks Simon). For her second single in North America, the record label chose "I Got You", a lively midtempo that is reminiscent of "Better In Time". She performed the song on David Letterman last night. Not one of her best, but a solid effort.

The reported single choice for Europe is "Outta My Head", Leona's first ever dance-pop song, produced by Swedish pop god Max Martin.

Um, WHY IS NOT BEING RELEASED IN AMERICA???

Leona needs an instant smash right now, and "Outta My Head" is exactly what the pop doctor ordered. Electro pop is so in, it should be a crime that the label is not cashing in. Not to trash "I Got You", but they should've saved that for spring. If they released "Outta My Head" with a great remix, this song not only would have been a hit, it could bring Echo from the lower reaches of the pop charts. I swear to God, Sony BMG (and Simon Cowell, for that matter) just fail at life sometimes.

OK, enough with the rants.

Finally, on Sunday night, Leona performed on the X Factor final, singing her cover of the Oasis hit "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" to the backdrop of the show in review.

Check out all of the performances after the jump (from now on, for megaposts and such, I won't post videos on the front page so the blog will run faster :) ):
