Song Review: "Womanizer" by Britney Spears

“Womanizer” cover
IS BRITNEY BACK??
This morning, fans went ape-crazy when various radio stations, including Z100, premiered the new Britney Spears song "Womanizer" from her upcoming album Circus. It is one of the most anticipated songs of the year, for good reason. After Britney's stable appearance at the VMAs, earlier this month, people have been eager to hear what sobriety means for her music.

I'm not going to lie; this song WILL be a smash hit.

Britney has taken her critically-applauded Blackout sound and pushed it further. "Womanizer" is fast-paced, futuristic, synthesized pop, with a ridiculously catchy chorus. Yes, its nothing original, but it should still be acknowledged when its done well. A few listens will hook the most hardcore pop lover, even those who deny Britney after her annus horriblis (2007-2008). She sounds really good here too, and I'm surprised to say that her voice doesn't sound like its been Auto-Tuned or anything like that (like T-Pain, Rihanna, and even Kanye). As for the lyrics, they are only a few "lol" moments here (Lollipop, you must mistake me for a sucker), but Britney has never been Mozart in that in sense anyway. I was hoping for a "It's Britney, bitch" opening like in her Top 5 hit "Gimme More", but the hot-as-fire chorus makes up for it.

"Womanizer" is another step-forward for the recovering pop princess. It's the track she needed; something interesting enough to get her name back in the headlines for the right reasons. Britney's done what many deemed impossible; she's orchestrated a full-fledged comeback. If "Womanizer" is any indication, than her new album will be the hottest buy of the Christmas season.

Welcome back, Brit.
