Me To David Archuleta: You're a Winner Too!

Although David Cook took home the American Idol title tonight, the other David shouldn't feel like he's a loser. In fact, he's as much of a winner as Cook is.

As early as the Top 20 when Archuleta delivered a pitch-perfect performance of "Imagine", he set himself apart as the one to beat. I said, in one of my first posts as a blogger, that he had a VERY high chance of winning. The early predictions of victory came because he brought a Top 6 performance in the first two weeks of competition! Only one other time has that occurred (Chris Daughtry, "Hemorrhage In My Hands").

For the next 13 weeks, Archuleta, minus one misstep, delivered amazing vocals every single time. He showed that at 17 years old, he could perform songs with both power and grace, using his pure voice to do it.

Then there is the humble persona he holds. Despite the heavy amounts of praise and love from the voters (he, along with Cook, have NEVER been in the Bottom Three), he always remained humble and shy. When most teenagers are running out of control, he remained cool, calm, and collected, hopefully setting a standard of behavior for the tons of tween girls who adore him. I think he may be the first real American Idol role model since Kelly first won in '02.

There is no question that Archie will get a record deal (chances are, Clive is talking with showbiz daddy right now). He was the best vocalist of the season. He may not have won American Idol, but the experience is worth its weight in gold too.
