Is it me, or is Carrie Underwood MORE awesome when she's angry?
"Last Name", the third single from her double-platinum Carnival Ride, is pretty much a follow-up to her monster hit "Before He Cheats". Its a really easy storyline to conceive of; after smashing up her boyfriend's car in the last song, she kicks back a few shots of cuervo, hooks up with a guy, and jets off to Vegas for a quickie wedding.
It's a really fun song, and Carrie really lets it all out in this song. That whole "All-American Girl" thing she cultivated in the last single and on her album covers have been shot to hell. Carrie belts, sasses, and even almost growls on this record, leading to the most exciting vocal from a country singer since the awesomeness that is Shania Twain.
Just like BHC, "Last Name" is a kick-ass country song with major pop crossover appeal. In that way, she is much like Shania. If Carrie can continue down this path, she very well can have her own "Come On Over" very soon.
