It was the battle of the 40 year-old comeback kids.
Both Robert Downey Jr. and Patrick Dempsey capped off their recent career comebacks with two big movie releases. Superhero flick Iron Man and romantic comedy Made of Honor were the two big movies out this week, so who topped the movie charts?
Well, figure it out. A state-of-the-art supersuit versus a man wearing a dress? Really?
As expected, Iron Man was the winner at the box office. What was unexpected was the staggering numbers it brought in. According to Box Office Mojo, the superhero movie brought in $98 million in its opening weekend, much more than the projected $70 million. It is the best opening weekend so far, and is the best opening weekend for a non-sequel since the release of Spider-Man in 2002.
Made of Honor, starring the Grey's Anatomy star, brought in a disappointing $14 million in its first weekend. In the third spot is Tina Fey's movie Baby Mama, bringing in about $10 million.
