Duffy is only the second artist (the first was of course Leona Lewis) to have two "Download of the Day" posts, for good reason.
This song, titled "Warwick Avenue" is absolutely fantastic, almost better than "Mercy", her breakout single. Her voice has a real platform to shine here, sounding hauntingly beautiful in this sad song about her dumping a boyfriend. If anyone had doubts about her voice before, this song dispels them. It also dispels the belief that she's an Amy Winehouse knock-off. Her voice is smoother, lighter than the anguished soul present in Amy's voice. That doesn't mean she can't sing soul; it makes listening just a bit more pleasant.
Lyrically, its a nice song about a girl having enough of her hurtful boyfriend, ready to dump him on Warwick Avenue (I'm assuming its a place in Wales). Its nice to hear a breakup song that isn't overt and confrontational; it shows the mutual anguish of a dying relationship.
All in all, "Warwick Avenue" is a fantastic 3rd single for a girl still riding the wave of "Mercy". From what I've heard so far, Duffy's debut album "Rockferry" is definitely one to pick up. Its being released next month here in the UK.
RATING: 8/10
