The longest-running black music awards show, The Soul Train Awards, have been officially canceled after 22 years, according to Mediatakeout.com.
Although a reason wasn't given for the cancellation, it is believed that many no longer find the award ceremony relevant when compared to the higher-profile Grammy and American Music Award ceremonies. Many of last year's nominees and winners failed to attend, including Beyonce and Mary J. Blige.
The award ceremony was the brainchild of Don Cornelius, the creator of the Soul Train music program that aired on Saturday mornings in syndicated markets for decades. The legendary program was canceled 2 years ago.
A very sad day for African-American music.
