Today around noon, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer ended both his run in office and his career in politics after it was revealed that he had engaged in a prostitution ring.
But what's next for the shamed governor?
On the family front, his brave wife Silda Wall Spitzer is seemingly standing by her husband's side. The question that remains, however, is how long? Will she pull a Hillary and stand by her husband through the public ridicule he will face for years to come? Or, will she leave him to fight the battle alone, taking the kids along with her.
There is also a question about his legal problems after the fact. He could still be facing a plethora of charges; ranging from Structuring to violating the Mann Act. Then there is the use of taxpayer money to pay for his hooker's expenses. He could be facing a lot of jailtime.
Finally, there is the public. In the press, he was applauded for his work in taking down crime as Attorney General. He was known as an indignant, righteous man who had every right to be that way. The one thing that people know about New Yorkers are that they rarely ever forget the sins of a hypocrite. Will he ever live this career-ending scandal down?
Only time will tell, but chances are, probably not.
