People Love Their "Sex"!
In its 1st day of release, the movie grossed an amazing $26 million at the box office, twice as much as last week's #1, Indiana Jones 4. Chances are, the ladies will stomp Indy into the ground with their Manolos.
On the music front, the soundtrack has topped the iTunes chart, knocking Usher's new album Here I Stand from the top spot.

Download of the Day 5/29: "Stamp Your Feet" by Donna Summer

The Queen of Disco is back!
Usher Looses Millions Thanks To Album Leak!

Although he will still debut at #1 next week with his newest album Here I Stand, Usher and Arista Records have a good reason to be upset!
The Best "Don't Let A Loss Get To Your Heart" Songs (Part 2)
"Apologize" by OneRepublic and Timbaland - Seriously, where wasn't this song on radio? It was on EVERY station except country and hard rock, for a good reason. Thanks to superproducer Timbaland, Ryan Tedder's powerful voice and lament-filled lyrics came through to every format. It is the perfect sad song, with an awesome beat behind it.
"Stronger" by Kanye West - Kanye is probably the cockiest human being on the planet, which makes this chart-topper all the more awesome. Teamed up with house group Daft Punk, Kanye put together the ultimate "dust yourself off" song, whenever you fall.
"Go The Distance" by Michael Bolton - The theme to the Disney movie "Hercules". A graduation favorite. A great song to inspire those suffering a terrible loss. Unlike many inspirational songs these days (coughAmericanIdolWinningSongscough), "Distance" isn't contrived, sappy, or lame. It doesn't hurt that Michael Bolton is here, injecting some soul into the song.
"I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders - Now, onto the sappy. Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders are have a very coll reputation, so it took some balls to put out a ballad that could easily be a charity song (see Girls Aloud) or a wedding dance song. Although the concept is a bit cheesy, it is a great song about being there for someone you love and/or care about.
"I Believe I Can Fly" by R.Kelly - This was MY SONG for like a year, I'm not kidding. I had this song playing on repeat in my cassette player throughout '97 and '98. Pushing the kiddie porn and overall freakiness of the "Pied Piper of R&B" aside, he is an extremely talented man, especially when he is writing music not necessarily about sex. This is a great example. Another graduation favorite, because it inspires kids departing schools that cab fly past everything.
David Cook OWNS Hot 100!
David Cook has A LOT to be happy about this week!
A week after being the first rocker to win American Idol, David Cook has smashed many US chart records!
Cook debuts on this week's chart with an astonishing 11 songs, the most ever. He broke the record set by Miley Cyrus in 2006, when she had 6 songs debut on the Hot 100 in one week.
His highest charting single, the winning single "Time of My Life", hit #3 this week after selling 236,000 copies. Had his single been available since the beginning chart week, he would've likely debuted at #1. His next highest single is "Dream Big" at #15. His lowest charting single "I'm Alive" is at #99.
He charted even better on the Hot Digital Songs, with 14 entries!
In other David news, Archuleta also scores three songs on the Hot 100; his highest being Imagine at #36.
Usher to World: I'm A Man Now, Leave My Wife Alone
Usher, whose newest record focuses primarily on his marriage and the birth of his son, Usher Raymond V, has told the public that he is no longer the player that sang about groupies, cheating, and unplanned pregnancies on his last record, the Diamond-selling Confessions.
He has also questioned people's reaction to his marriage to stylist Tameka Foster, who has been met with a lot of media scrutiny. In a post on MediaTakeOut.com, friends of Tameka believe she is near a meltdown.
"I'm a guy that decided to marry a woman -- a black woman -- that wasn't perfect, that had flaws, that through all in all, she's been successful on her own. ... and that's a bad thing. I decided to marry this woman, then I decide to be a father to my child," he said in an interview. "And that's a bad thing. It's not like I got caught with a gram of coke in my car or speeding or was caught for murder, so why would I be ridiculed, that's why I don't understand -- that's the part that is mind boggling. Why would I be ridiculed for that, even a year later."
Yesterday, on TRL, he blasted rumors about his wife: "Matter of fact, I'm tired of people continuing to talk so much trash about me. ... My wife is not 40 years old. I love her to death and I'm a black, strong man in America standing up for my people—as a man to my wife, to my son, to my family."
I'm not a wild fan of Tameka Foster, but I commend Usher for defending his wife. I also think people should lay off them. People were all over Usher's ass when he cheated on Chili, so he should be given some respect for finally growing up.

Special Friend Post - "And It Was Friday" by Melanie Dionisio
The next piece of work I'm featuring is by Melanie Dionisio. The story is a project from our teacher Mr. Snyder's class, currently unfinished. It's written from two perspectives; I will be adding the chapters once a day.
Here is the first chapter:
Erin has a Diary
Christina has a Blog
----------
April 7th, 2006
Dear Diary,
I looked around and all I could see was tissues scattered around her bed and asked her what’s wrong. She told me it’s been a little over a month and she did not get her period yet. I thought she was just over reacting because of the exams we've been getting lately and her activity during softball.
Twenty minutes passed and I could hear Christy crying from the other side of the door. I knocked on the door and asked to come in. She slowly opened the door and as I walked in I could see the pregnancy test already thrown into the bath tub.
I tried to comfort her but she couldn't stop crying. She kept repeating over and over again "I can't believe this is happening".
Picking up the pregnancy test, I put it back into the box and put it on top of the sink. I brought Christy back into her room where Jude, back from down stairs, was nervously pacing back and forth. While Christy was crying, I told him the news.
Jude paused for a moment and just yelled, "I can't do this anymore... I mean this can't be happening!"
That was when I told Jude “Calm down. Things are going to be alright, just relax.”
"Things are NOT going to be alright Erin!” Then he began to stutter, “I...I... I can’t be here... This is just too much.... are you sure it said positive?”
I walked back into the bathroom, picked up the box with the pregnancy test inside and handed it to him. He took the test and started reading the directions on the box, then back at the test.
“We're only 16 years old..... You just can't be pregnant! This can’t be happening!" He yelled.
I told Jude he has to help her, but he refused to. He said he wanted no part of her and the baby… and so he left the house.
Christy started crying hysterically. I had to calm her down so I stayed for a while till she was able to sleep. I told her I’d stop on by in the morning because it was already too late.
I left her lying in her bed and left the house, with the stereo on to keep her company.
And now I am home.
As her best friend, I am always there to support her. But to be having a baby at a time like this; during our high school year is unimaginable. I mean, if she keeps the baby, will she finish high school?
Well it is too much to think about at 2 in the morning, really late, and I have school tomorrow.
More to come soon.

Greatest Scenes: The Red or the Blue Pill from The Matrix
It after that line was spoken that biggest acid trip of the 20th Century began.
"The Matrix" was the movie that left your head spinning after you watched it, forcing you to watch a few more times before you completely got it. There was one scene, however, that made plenty of sense. Morpheus, a mystery man, gives Thomas Anderson, whose alias is Neo, a choice. He could either continue existing in a world that was false, or become exposed to the real existence of humanity. The choices lied in two pills. The blue for the fantasy, and the red for the reality.
What did Neo do?
Of course he chose the red pill! What he probably wasn't expecting was waking up in a weird pod-like thing with wires connected to his body.
Why is this scene great? Its great because it is the catalyst to the ENTIRE future of the 1st movie and its two sequels. Without this scene, there would be no movie. The entire structure of the Matrix relied on a choice of a pill.
Luckily for Neo and the viewers, he chose red.
The Greatest Scenes: The Campfire Scene from "My Own Private Idaho"
Had he been given the chance, River Phoenix would probably be the biggest actor in the world.
As tragic as it is, his death in 1993 cemented his place in cinematic memory, as the young actor with more promise than can be conceived of. His potential, both realized and unrealized, was so great that it eventually crushed him, driving him to drugs and that fateful Halloween morning. While he was alive, he delivered some of the greatest performances ever by a young actor.
His most famous may be the masterclass campfire scene from the movie My Own Private Idaho, directed by Gus Van Sant. The movie surrounds two young boys (the other played by Keanu Reeves) on a journey. During one scene, Mike (Phoenix) and Scott (Reeves) are sitting by a campfire, and seemingly out of the blue, Mike asks Scott about their relationship. Scott describes it as a friendship, which Mike hesitantly agrees with. Mike then admits that he has romantic feelings for Scott. The two lines that reveal the affection? When talking about hustling men for cash, Mike says: "I could love someone even if I wasn't paid for it. I love you and you don't pay me."
What really strikes a chord is Phoenix's delivery of not just those lines, but throughout the entire scene. In every single frame, you could see his fear and apprehension, even before you know he's talking about. You could also hear it; the tension in his voice as he explained himself to Scott was palpable. Even in a whisper, River spoke volumes. His performance was extraordinary, especially considering his age. He engrossed himself in the role, developing a three-dimensional character you couldn't help but feel for as his feelings aren't returned.
River Phoenix's dedication to the role of Mike Waters is what many believe began his downward spiral. Around the time of filming, rumors circulated that he was using drugs, just like his character. Whatever the cause, River Phoenix's death is one of the great tragedies in Hollywood history. With a talent undeniable and an ability to pull vulnerability out of the toughest roles, he could've reached the highest heights.

Sydney Pollack Passes Away
Pollack, who received in Oscar for his direction of the movie Out of Africa, died at his home in the Pacific Palisades in California.
He was 73.
My Favorite Scenes: Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill
I'm sure the execs were surprised when Bethany Joy Galeotti (nee Lenz) and James Lafferty outright stole the show out from under him.
The two play Haley James and Nathan Scott. Haley was a bookworm tutor who was best friends with lead character Lucas. Nathan was Tree Hill's resident bad boy with the great basketball skills. He also happened to be Lucas' younger half-brother, and he hated him. Nathan's revenge? Use Haley to get to Lucas by becoming her tutoree. The plan seemed to be working fine, until he found himself liking her for more than her potential to screw with Lucas. Nathan and Haley quickly fell for each other, and so did viewers. Soon, people could care less about the Brooke/Lucas/Peyton triangle; it was all about "Naley". They became the stars of OTH, with an stronger-than-steel fanbase.
Since season one, they have married, gotten a tattoo of Nathan's jersey number on her lower back (Haley), file for emancipation (Nathan), move into their own apartment, fallen asleep in the park, made out in the rain more than once, broken up over a tour and Chris Keller, crashed a car (Nathan), signed annulment papers, fought over birth control, reunited, got pregnant, dove into a river to save his uncle and nearly drowned (Nathan), got involved in a point-shaving scandal (Nathan), bitch-slap Rachel (Haley), had a boy named Jamie, went to college, fall through glass and become paralyzed (Nathan), break up over a psycho nanny, have their son nearly drown, have their son kidnapped by the psycho nanny, gone to marriage counseling, and go back to their dreams of music and basketball. Yet, through it all, and they have been through A LOT, they remain in love and committed to each other. Nathan and Haley are the best couple on television, period.
From their long, illustrious history, I have chosen two scenes I think encapsulate why everyone loves Nathan and Haley. Both are from season one.
The first is from the eighth episode, where Nathan and Haley go on their first official date, where he dismisses her in front of his friends. That leads to the couple's first kiss the next morning (from NathanLuvsHaley):
The next is from the very next episode, where Nathan leaves the hospital and finds Haley after he collapses on the basketball court (from cheerchickmarna):
Two things to notice: James and Bethany's ridiculous chemistry and the perfect music during the scenes.
The Best "Don't Let A Loss Get To Your Heart" Songs (Part 1)
"Fix You" by Coldplay - I have just begun discovering Coldplay, and this song almost immediately stuck out to me. It is a somber, yet uplifting song allowing to remember that we all aren't irreparably broken.
"Hometown Glory" by ADELE - This song is absolutely beautiful. It just seems perfect for a bus or train ride home after a difficult day. Although she is singing about London, I feel like this song could applied to any city, especiallyh my "hometown" of New York
"Better In Time" by Leona Lewis - Like I wasn't going to slip a Leona song in here, lol. Seriously, it's a great, uplifting song about surviving a bad break-up. Even if the lyrics don't get you, the powerhouse singing it definitely should.
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day - Grammy-winning perfection. "Boulevard" is one of Green Day's best songs, because the lyrics are personal, making them easy to connect to. It's a terribly moving song.
"Ugly" by the Sugababes - Have you ever been teased, made fun of. Ever wonder the perfect comeback? Listen to this song. Not only does it give you a good quip, it reveals a bit about human nature. The girls' harmonies are seamless in this song, making it a very pretty track; one of their best.
"Hollywood's Not America" by Ferras - There was a reason the song was chosen as the American Idol goodbye song before Ruben came along. The song with a story is a somber, wonderful song that fit perfectly with a dejected contestant going home in defeat.
"Tears Dry On Their Own" by Amy Winehouse - You would never think this was a sad song if you listened solely to the melody. The Motown- sound, ripped right out of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", masks the pain in the lyrics. Then, there is Amy's voice, rich in soul and passion, reminding you about the song's lyrical content. If you're looking for a double whammy of joy and sorrow, here's your song.
Classic Download of the Day: "Biology" by Girls Aloud

It's a bit odd that I'm featuring a song from a British group on Memorial Day here in the US. Just consider it odd timing.
If you have been reading my blog, then you probably know that I love Girls Aloud.
"Biology" is a pretty good reason.
"Biology" was the second single released from their third album, Chemistry, and was one of their most critically lauded. In fact, The Guardian called it the "best pop single of the last decade". Why? Because it is the most innovative pop song in years. Produced by mega-producers Xenomania, it mixes so many different sounds and melodies that it makes your head spin. That also makes it so hard to explain. It's like they meshed three songs into one; the opening is reminiscent of something you would hear on Broadway, what follows is a normal Euro-pop melodies, complete with synth and light beats. It then explodes in the chorus, singing some of the most puzzling lyrics known to music. That doesn't make it any less infectious. In fact, it's a close to musical perfection that anyone would admit.
Even the hardest rockers in the world who balk at the mainstream pop scene would be hard-pressed to find anything wrong with this song, especially from a musical standpoint. If they did, they are wrong. Even indie band the Artic Monkeys consider themselves fans.
It's okay to admit, Girls Aloud are pretty awesome.
Rating 9.5/10 (for US readers, its available on iTunes; just search Girls Aloud)
Michael Jackson Returns To Spotlight!

Jacko sure knows how to make an entrance!
The King of Pop made a surprise appearance at the 50th birthday party of Christian Audigier, the owner of Ed Hardy, a fashion line.
The pop recluse has been living in Las Vegas since returning to the States from Bahrain, a Middle Eastern country. This one of his first public appearances this year.
According to the UK's Daily Mail, the many celebrities who attended were whipped into a frenzy as Michael appeared on stage with a microphone, suggesting he would perform. However, he was just there to give a birthday wish to Audigier.
Michael, who just released a 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller, is currently working on a new album due out this year.

My Favorite Scenes: "Circle of Life" from the Lion King
It's quite enlightening to look back at a childhood pleasure through older, wiser eyes. You might find that something that appears rather hollow, is actually rooted in deeper significance. That's how I feel about The Lion King now.
Specifically, the opening scene. As a kid, I never paid much attention to it. It was pretty much about animals watching the birth of a lion. As a teenager, I now realize that scene's complexity, both in beauty and in meaning.
Kudos must be delivered to the entire production staff for that scene. Visually, its a masterpiece; the rich colors, the seamless animation, everything about it is fantastic. The song, "Circle of Life" is ridiculously perfect for the moments. It all comes together to make a splendid moment in cinema.
However, it is the subtext of that scene that truly gives it its wonder. The idea that so many different types of animals, from birds to giraffes, can come together for the celebration of one important moment is surprisingly relevant in today's world. Some of the animals are even predator and prey, yet they can put aside their differences for the greater good. It makes you think, "if animals can do it, why can't we?"
All of these elements make the Circle of Life opener to the Lion King easily the GREATEST moment in animated movie history.

Record Contract For Archuleta?
While RCA Records focus on winner David Cook and his guaranteed #1 single "Time of my Life", Archuleta will be signed to Jive Records, home to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. However, there will be no David-David war on iTunes; A's single will be released around the time of his album, during the summer.
There are some possible reasons for this choice. Maybe they are afraid of a Clay/Ruben outsell happening again. Maybe they want more time to cultivate a record for little D. Then, there is the easiest reason; they want to focus on their winner.
Figure it out for yourself.
Archangels, proceed to scream now, lol.
Me To Constantine Maroulis: You're An Ass!
It is one thing to attack someone your own age, who can defend themselves and (rightfully so) kick your ass.
It is a whole 'nother ball game when you make fun of a 17-year old!
Constantine Maroulis, during an interview with some other jackasses, insulted David Archuleta the night of the Idol finale. Maroulis, who was a contestant in the 4th season, called Archuleta a punk who needed to win in order to be successful. He also rudely suggested David A was gay, claiming "he doesn't like any of those girls who are looking at him" and that he had "gaydar". The other jackasses said Archuleta's future would end up being on a Carnival Cruise ship performing sing-alongs, to which Maroulis added "a same-sex one".
Constantine also snuck in a little barb at Season 6 contestant Sanjaya, calling him the gayest contestant out of any of the finalists.
Seriously, WTF!
It is disgusting that Constantine would openly attack a freakin' teenager who he has probably never met, yet appears to be one of the humblest contestants to ever appear on the show! Not everyone may like him, but Constantine viciously hit below the belt. Also, his gay remarks are all the more insulting considering how he claims to be so tolerant. Exactly, how would his gay best friends feel about him viciously attack a kid's sexuality like that?
Constantine is probably frustrated that David A has a promising future ahead of him while he's stuck doing cheap crap like American Idol Extra. By the way, he shouldn't be proud of doing Bold and the Beautiful. His stint on the show was universally panned and was one of the worst periods in the show's 20-year history!
Constantine was never known for his tact (he was declared one of the most annoying contestants ever), but you would think, 3 years after doing the show, he would gain some kind of grace and class, especially when discussing an overall nice guy. It's utterly pathetic to see a grown-ass man behave like an asshole.
Constantine definitely lost a fan.

Box Office Report: Indiana Jones Ropes In The Bucks!
According to estimates, Indy brought in $101 million over the last three days, out-grossing the #2 movie (Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) 5 times over!
Let's not forget tomorrow is Memorial Day, so the number will likely be even bigger!
I guess Harrison Ford's still got it!
Download of the Day 5/25: Last Name by Carrie Underwood
Is it me, or is Carrie Underwood MORE awesome when she's angry?
"Last Name", the third single from her double-platinum Carnival Ride, is pretty much a follow-up to her monster hit "Before He Cheats". Its a really easy storyline to conceive of; after smashing up her boyfriend's car in the last song, she kicks back a few shots of cuervo, hooks up with a guy, and jets off to Vegas for a quickie wedding.
It's a really fun song, and Carrie really lets it all out in this song. That whole "All-American Girl" thing she cultivated in the last single and on her album covers have been shot to hell. Carrie belts, sasses, and even almost growls on this record, leading to the most exciting vocal from a country singer since the awesomeness that is Shania Twain.
Just like BHC, "Last Name" is a kick-ass country song with major pop crossover appeal. In that way, she is much like Shania. If Carrie can continue down this path, she very well can have her own "Come On Over" very soon.
Rating: 8/10
Video of the Week: Carrie Underwood Performs At AI Finale
Although Carrie Underwood doesn't need American Idol, whenever she shows up, she delivers some kind of awesome performance.
Dressed in a coat-dress thing with some fabric connecting her arms, Carrie Underwood rocked the Idol finale singing her latest single "Last Name". Although a bit screechy, she was no doubt awesome (and looked hotter than hell), proving why she is still the real reigning American Idol.

My Favorite Scenes: Kelly Clarkson Wins American Idol
Remember when American Idol was this little summer program on FOX about finding the next music idol? Before it became the pop culture fixture it is now, American Idol was a mid-season replacement meant to be canceled. It debuted to a typical 9 million viewing audience.
A few months later, 22 million people tuned in to watch Kelly Clarkson, a bubbly Texan with a sensational voice, win the first-ever American Idol. Before we became critical over song choices, voting errors, and Sanjaya, we cheered when Clarkson, visibly shaken by her victory, sang her coronation single "A Moment Like This". We flocked to the stores to buy that single, sending it straight to #1 in one of the biggest chart jumps in history. For the first time in a decade, America was swept up in a phenomenon, and it was solidified by this moment.
The wonder has dulled after 7 years, but back in 2002, when a tearful Kelly Clarkson sang her winning single, the country gazed at the crowning of the next big superstar.
Download of the Day 5/24: Spotlight by Jennifer Hudson

Now THIS is a Jennifer Hudson single!
After "All Dressed Up In Love" was leaked, I was worried about her. My fears were premature.
The lead single from her eponymous debut album, "Spotlight", will officially be released on June 10th, and I HEAVILY recommend downloading it.
The Stargate-produced track is almost too perfect for J-Hud. She wisely restrains her vocals in the beginning and middle of the song, allowing the listener to enjoy both the tone of her voice and the great lyrics. In an era where lyrical content is left to be desired, "Spotlight" delivers clever, but meaningful lyrics. One line that stands out is "Are you a guard in a prison maximum security?" The song is about a woman in a oppressive relationship, with the "spotlight" referring to the overbearing jealousy the boyfriend has. The lyrics are easy to relate if you've been that kind of relationship, so I am sure "Spotlight" is going to become the women's anthem for the next few months.
For those who love Jennifer's glass-breaking power, you may be just a little disappointed. Although, she does touch the vocal peak toward the end, she never goes all the way there, like she did in her Oscar-winning role in Dreamgirls. I think it was smart she didn't, but there are some wanting her to blow the speakers out with her voice.
All-in-all, "Spotlight" is a great first single for Jennifer Hudson. The song, like many other Stargate tracks, will definitely have staying power on radio. If this is a sign of things to come, then Jennifer Hudson's debut will be spectacular (it will be released on September 30th).
Once again, Jennifer Hudson proves that losing American Idol has more benefits than you would think (here that David Archuleta?)

Billboard Finally Fully Accepts The Digital Revolution!
The most significant change is the addition of digital-only albums to the Billboard 200 and other genre album charts. Ever wonder why Adele's 19 didn't chart when it was released alongside Leona Lewis' Spirit? That's because for an album to chart, it had to have a physical release. Now, albums like Adele's that are only available through iTunes, can chart alongside the others.
Also, the Hot 100 Single Sales will now include both digital and physical releases, essentially doing away with the Hot Digital Songs chart. The Single Sales chart will be the primary provider of information for the Hot 100 and the Pop 100.
Kudos to Billboard to finally making things for the internet artists!
Girls Aloud Releasing New Album!

Forget the break-up rumors!
British pop group Girls Aloud, responsible for one of the best pop songs of the decade "Call The Shots", announced on their tour that they are preparing for their sixth album!
The girl group announced the news during a performance at London's O2 Arena, officially putting the rumors to rest that they were splitting. No release date was announced though for the album or the 4th single from the current album "Tangled Up".
Girls Aloud currently hold the record for the most consecutive UK Top 10 singles, their 18th being March's "Can't Speak French".
They NEED to do a follow-up of "Call The Shots"! They just have to!!

America LOVES Leona!
You see how the audience is singing along?
It's proof. America is LOVING Leona Lewis right now. Plus, she is gaining so much more confidence on stage! I guess when you're getting ALL that love, your morale is boosted significantly.
Download of the Day 5/23: Can't B Good by Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson claimed that Discipline would be a return to form, and with her 4th single, she finally be making good on that promise.
After the lukewarm receptions of her last three singles (although Feedback did break the Top 20), she is pulling out the 4th, the slow-burning "Can't B Good". The ballad is reminiscent of old-school Janet, when she hit #1 with "That's The Way Love Goes". Its a slow groove, something you can slow dance to, and its been awhile since she's released something like that. I don't why, because she excels in this format. Her voice, breathy and smooth, sounds excellent against the soft beat in the back.
She better promote the hell out of this song, because it could possibly save the sinking ship that is her record.

Greatest Scenes in Movie and Television History: Part 1
The first scene is from Grey's Anatomy, which will be featured many more times. The season finale of Season 2 was known for many things, including the infamous Meredith/Derek reunion sex. However, the best moment of the episode, the season, and arguably the series was when the interns walked into Denny's room, finding Izzie lying next to his dead body. Everything about the scene was perfection. Katherine Heigl, who tended to take a backseat to Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh since the series began, really shone through, and became a real reason to watch. It may have been this scene that helped launch her burgeoning movie career. This scene also helped in launching Grey's as a serious contender on television.

David Cook EXPLODES on iTunes!
Expect David Cook to be the first Idol to hit #1 on the charts since Taylor Hicks in 2006!
Song Premiere: David Cook's "Time of My Life"
David Cook, who took home the Idol crown in a surprise result, has released his first single "Time of My Life" on iTunes this morning.
Before I heard it in full (he performed it last night, but I was too shocked to pay attention), I expected two things: corny as hell lyrics and Daughtry-style arrangement.
Imagine how surprised I was when the single met both of the expectations and then some!
Like 4 out of the 6 Idol coronation songs before it, "Time of My Life" is a generic piece of crap undeserving of its fantastic singer.
Some of the lyrics are absolutely ridiculous (And looking for that magic rainbow on the horizon? GMAB). I almost wish they let the contestants who can write their own songs; it has to be better than this.
Nevertheless, David Cook does his best to sound cool singing it. There is no denying he has a fantastic voice that will definitely carry him. Unfortunately, even those great vocals aren't masking what the song sounds like: a reject off of Chris Daughtry's 3x platinum debut. In fact, it sounds as if someone ripped parts of "Home" and "Feels Like Tonight" and put new lyrics to it. There is no resemblance of Cook's trademark individuality, the same that brought him success with songs from Mariah and Andrew Lloyd Webber. I can't believe I'm typing this, but it sounds like it could be anyone singing it.
This is not a crack against Cook, because he is fantastic and deserved to win. Its unfortunate that his song has to join "This Is My Now", "Do I Make You Proud", "Inside Your Heaven", "Flying Without Wings" and "This is the Night" in AI's "Winning Songs of Trash". Shame on that stupid songwriting contest for turning the most creative contestant in Idol history into a generic pop/rock singer.
Hopefully, his album (due out in October/November) will be more the real David Cook.

Usher's New Single - "Moving Mountains"
A bit over-the-top for my taste, and I haven't really warmed up to the song, but its fine for now. Here it is:
Me To David Archuleta: You're a Winner Too!
As early as the Top 20 when Archuleta delivered a pitch-perfect performance of "Imagine", he set himself apart as the one to beat. I said, in one of my first posts as a blogger, that he had a VERY high chance of winning. The early predictions of victory came because he brought a Top 6 performance in the first two weeks of competition! Only one other time has that occurred (Chris Daughtry, "Hemorrhage In My Hands").
For the next 13 weeks, Archuleta, minus one misstep, delivered amazing vocals every single time. He showed that at 17 years old, he could perform songs with both power and grace, using his pure voice to do it.
Then there is the humble persona he holds. Despite the heavy amounts of praise and love from the voters (he, along with Cook, have NEVER been in the Bottom Three), he always remained humble and shy. When most teenagers are running out of control, he remained cool, calm, and collected, hopefully setting a standard of behavior for the tons of tween girls who adore him. I think he may be the first real American Idol role model since Kelly first won in '02.
There is no question that Archie will get a record deal (chances are, Clive is talking with showbiz daddy right now). He was the best vocalist of the season. He may not have won American Idol, but the experience is worth its weight in gold too.
David Cook Wins American Idol Season 7!
David Cook won the seventh installment of American Idol tonight, making him the first rock contestant to do so (the Daughtry fans finally have their revenge).
I'm not going to lie. After the performances last night, I was SURE David A was taking it home. Even when Ryan said there was 12 million vote difference, I was certain Archuleta won. I was wrong, and in the biggest upset in Idol finale history, Cook was crowned the winner.
Once again, congrats to David Cook for winning the seventh season.
Congratulations also go to David Archuleta as well, for being amazing as well. Both Davids made it the best Top 2 ever!
DAVID COOK WINS!
Congratulations to David Cook for winning American Idol Season 7!
A more indepth analysis will come later on...

American Idol Finale: The Winner Will Be....
In theory, it should have been hell to decided who was going home with the title of America's Idol. Both of them deserved to win and both of them wanted to win. In reality, last night's surprisingly short, lackluster performance finale told us the clearcut winner:
David Archuleta.
The 17 year-old from Utah will take home the title in tonight's 2-hour season ender, simply because he outperformed the other David.
In every song, even when he reheated "Imagine", he delivered more passion in his voice than ever before, outdoing DC's fire, which died out by the last song. He was in it to win it, and as far as I'm concerned, he did.
By the way, the American Idol Songwriting Contest once again delivered two disastrous songs. David A's was insipid, although he sang it beautifully. David C's was boring, although he did the best he could with it.
We'll see who wins tonight at 8 pm EST, but everyone knows, based on last night, Archuleta already has it.

Gossip Girl Finale: Sugar - Spice = Not So Nice!
It was just okay.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVED Blair destroying Georgina, and I LOVED that she worked with Dan to do it. But that was really it.
The problem with this episode was that it seemed a bit contrived. Everything was tied up in a nice little bow, with no real drama to hook viewers for the next three months. Nothing was left up in the air; there was no WOW moment at all. Although the episode raised some questions (will Nate and Serena hook up? Dan and Vanessa?), there was really nothing worth talking about the next morning. It seemed like the writers were preparing for the show's cancellation, because that episode could've been a series finale.
In fact, they should've made the last episode the season finale. That episode would've been perfect, because the cliffhanger at the end would've kept people talking way into the summer.
To me, the season finale was too sugary and sweet for such a spicy show.
P.S.: Evidence the season finale was a disappointment: I actually want Georgina back (only a little bit!)
Janet Brings Her "Rhythm" To Ellen!
She also performed "Rhythm Nation", which you can see below.
If you haven't yet, pick up Discipline so you can be prepared for the tour!
The CW's In Trouble!
Two years after launching, the CW network, a fusion of the WB and UPN, is on the verge of collapse!
Ratings for the network are down 22% percent, during May Sweeps! As TV lovers know, "Sweeps" are the months that advertisers look for to begin negotiating commercial space. The lower the ratings, the lower the money the network makes, which is VERY bad for business.
Despite successes like Gossip Girl and America's Next Top Model, the channel isn't getting the viewers they are desperate for, the 18-34 demographic. They are the basis of the whole network. The reason for the low ratings According to the Wall Street Journal, the CW's demographic are flooding to the Internet for amusement, forgoing the tube altogether.
I mean, why sit in front of the TV and watch 40 minutes of GG with commercials when you can simply click on iTunes, download it, and watch it whenever you want!
Rumors are escalating about either Time Warner or CBS pulling out of the drowning venture. People are saying that the network is being given one more season before cancellation is really considered.
And they are pulling out every stop!
On top of Gossip Girl, there is the heavily-anticipated remake of Beverly Hills 90210, titled 90210. Execs are hoping that old 90210 fans will tune in for nostalgia purposes. To further that goal, former stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling are joining the show, as well as Melrose Place star Rob Estes.
Hopefully, the CW can pull it together!
Desperate Housewives Finale: Thanks for Ruining My Summer!
As spoiled, Desperate Housewives was forwarded five years into the future, and what a difference half a decade makes!
Bree's back with Orson, and is apparently a businesswoman.
Gabby has 2 kids, and is dressed in sweats!
Lynette's kids are hanging out in Juvie.
Katherine is happy, for once.
But the biggest shocker of all came from Susan, played by Teri Hatcher. Susan walks through the door of her house and is greeted by her husband....
and its not Mike!
Now we are all supposed to speculate for the next three months. What happened to Mike? Is he alive, dead, drugged up somewhere? Did Carlos ever get his sight back? Where's Julie? What ever happened to demon-from-hell Kayla? Too many question, so much time.
Thank you ABC for dropping a nice little bomb to absorb our summer thoughts!

Download of the Day 5/18: "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry
"I kissed a girl, and I liked it."
Not since t.A.T.u set MTV on fire with faux-lesbian making out in the rain has girl-on-girl action been a musical topic.
Katy Perry's first single off her upcoming album is about, well, kissing a girl. She sings about experimenting with a girl, and hoping her boyfriend won't mind her dipping into the other side of the pool. The song's quirky lyrics fit almost perfectly with the electronica-rock sound backing the track. The guitar and the synth beats mixed with one of 2008's future catchphrases makes for a fun little ode to lesbianism.

Daytime Emmy Nominations: BULL!
After delivering a pitch-perfect performance as a sexual-assaulted Brooke Forrester on B&B last summer, she looses the nomination to Nicole Forester? What the hell?
This year's Emmy nominations are a disgrace, for two main reasons:
1. The same people who got nominated before were nominated again, when they didn't deserve it!
2. People who don't deserve nominations get them!
One of the most appalling nominations for me was the aforementioned Nicole Forester, who plays mister's wife and prostitute Cassie Lewis on Guiding Light. Explain to me how Laura Wright, who plays Carly on GH and used to play Cassie, NEVER received a nomination? People actually enjoyed her in the role! What on earth is happening there? Also, there are TONS of other actresses who would be better nominees (besides KKL, Deidre Hall, Nancy Lee Grahn, and Alicia Minshew). It makes no sense to me at all.
Then there is the bevy of Y&R emmy noms. Three actresses from the #1 rated show were nominated for Younger Actress, and only one of them actually deserved it. Tammin Sursok's turn of Colleen hasn't been anything remarkable, and Vail Bloom's Heather bores me to tears. Crazy Jana Hawkes, played by Emily O'Brien, was fantastic as a psycho, and will probably take it home.
Another big problem is the lack of variety in nominees. Once again, Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), Tony Geary (Luke, GH), David Canary (Adam/Stuart, AMC) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) are nominated again. What about others? Why is it that the same people are nominated every time, even when they shouldn't?
This is going to be one screwed up Emmys.
Reasons Why....I Love The Kardashians Show
Kendall (the second-youngest) paid off a dog-walker to do her chores for her so she wouldn't have to, and still get paid.
Kris (the mom) decided to turn her backyard into a chicken farm to provide her family with fresh eggs. After all that trouble, they hated the eggs.
The sisters bought their brother Rob a ticket to India to visit his girlfriend, Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon.
They all seem educated.
Khloe doesn't take anyone's s**t.
Kim is actually a nice girl.
Despite being rich and famous, they seem like a real, honest-to-goodness family.
For those who haven't seen it, the season finale is at 10 pm EST!

Expect a nice chart jump for her on Hot 100 this week!
Congrats Duffy!

UNbelievable! Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty's YouTube Vid!
It would be funny if it wasn't tragic:
Can someone HELP HER! PLEASE!
Is The New Kids Phenomenon Beginning....Again?
I never thought it would happen.
Shows how much we all know.
This week, the newly formed boy band released their latest single "Summertime" on iTunes. Within hours, the song shot up into the Top 20, with a current position of #15 (behind my fav Duffy). They currently have more albums in iTunes Top Albums chart than any other artist (two greatest hits albums at #23 and #62 and their blockbuster sophomore record Hangin' Tough at #100). The newer fans must be brushing up their history.
And what a history it is.
They are one of the most successful boy bands of all time, even after the teen-pop craze of the late 90's that spawned successors *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. In their heyday, they had 9 Top 10 singles and 3 chart-toppers, more than both of the other groups. They sold over 62 million albums worldwide, and made more in 1990 than both Madonna and Michael Jackson.
Chances are they will never reach that insane level of success that did back in the day, but the country, whether people like it or not, is slowly being swept up in the NKOTB craze like we were 20 years ago.

America's Lovin' Duffy!
Her album Rockferry is at #3 on iTunes, behind Death Cab for Cutie and Jason Mraz. Duffy is also #2 on Amazon.com! Both websites, through customer reviews, have given the album 4 stars or more!
According to HDD, she is expected to make a Top 10 debut!
That's HUGE for a virtual unknown! It's even more huge considering Estelle, who's done more promo, stalled at #38!
Go Duffy!

Hot 100 Update: Rihanna "Bow"s at Number One!
Rihanna's chart-topping pushes last week's Top 8 down one notch, including Leona Lewis, Lil' Wayne, Usher, Madonna, and Mariah Carey. Danity Kane's "Damaged" is the only other song to move into the Top 10 after weeks of hanging on the edge. It is Danity Kane's first Top 10 single since their debut "Show Stopper".
The "Hot Shot Debut" belongs to Coldpay, who charts at #15 with "Viva La Vida". "Viva" is the second single from Coldplay's upcoming album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Their first single, "Violet Hill", charts at #40 this week, likely because many downloaded the song for free a week before its sale on Coldplay's website. "Viva" is Coldplay's second highest charting single on the Hot 100 behind "Speed of Sound", which hit #8 in 2005.
Leona Goes Gold!
Congratulations! Leona, you deserve it!
Billboard 200: Neil Diamond's Sparkling Debut
His new album "Home Before Dark" scored a fantastic #1 with 146,000 copies sold in its first week. It is the first time he has ever hit #1 on the album charts, and his biggest-selling opening week since Soundscan starting measuring record sales in 1991. At #2 is Toby Keith's greatest hits record, which sold 103,000 copies.
Madonna, who topped the chart last week, falls to #3 with 94,000 copies sold in its second week. Clay Aiken's "On My Way Here" debuts at #4 with 93,000 copies sold.
Here is the Top 10:
1. Neil Diamond - "Home Before Dark" (146,000)
2. Toby Keith - "35 Biggest Hits" (103,000)
3. Madonna - "Hard Candy" (94,000)
4. Clay Aiken - "On My Way Here" (93,000)
5. Mariah Carey - "E=MC2" (87,000)

American Idol Top 3 Recap: Song Choice Clunkers
David Archuleta - I thought the first song by Billy Joel was pretty good, but very predictable. His second performance of Chris Brown's "With You" was cringe-inducing. Not because he sang it badly, because he didn't (despite a minor word flub). What was horribly awkward was him singing that kind of song. Some of the lyrics ("Hey little mama, ooh you're a stunner") he sang made me LOL because I was so embarrassed for him. He didn't seem comfortable at all. His last song "Longer" was much better, but not necessarily memorable.
Syesha Mercado - I liked her performance of "I Ain't Got You". I loved her performance of "Fever". She's very comfortable acting while she sings, a talent that could carry into many different directions, whether its pop star, Broadway, or even movies (hello Jennifer Hudson). I thought "Hit Me Up" was an act of sabotage by the producers. Syesha is a singer, and it was obvious she wasn't comfortable with such a poppy uptempo song. Then again, she wasn't going to the Finals anyway.
David Cook - I didn't care for any of his song choices, surprisingly. I kinda liked "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face", but I didn't like how he "Cooked" the song toward the end. It's a tender, haunting ballad. He should've given it the same treatment he gave "Music of the Night". I hated "Dare You To Move", although the song is on my iPod. I just don't think it suited him or his voice or his style. Finally, the arrangement of "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" was weird and disarming, but he did a good job.
Worst of the Night: None
Who's Going Home: Syesha (Unless the demons of hell come up to consume "The Hills" cast, she won't break through the impenetrable David-squared finale.
BTW, if you liked any of the performances from this season, get them before they're taken off iTunes next week!
Music Video Premiere: Maroon 5 and Rihanna's "If I Never See You Again"
Seriously, it has to be criminal for someone to look this good in anything.
Watch Rihanna steal the show in their video for their duet "If I Never See Your Face Again" below.
BTW, the chemistry between Adam and Rihanna is nearly explosive. Much more than Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks with "No Air".
Pokemon Platinum To Be Released!!
Album Sales Report: Neil Diamond Leads Pack
In a surprising third place is Leona Lewis, whose debut album Spirit has sold 53,244 copies so far. She is ahead of fellow chart-toppers Madonna and Mariah Carey, their albums selling 51,279 and 39,675 copies, respectively.
Another big debut is Clay Aiken's third album On My Way Here. He is currently situated at #5, with 49,792 copies sold.
More updates will come as given.
Box Office Report: Speed Racer Does WORSE Than Expected!

On Sunday, Speed Racer was estimated to take in $20 million to claim the second spot on the box office chart. It turns out that the estimates were way too kind.
The $100 million TV adaptation was an unbelievable flop, taking in only $18.5 million from theaters. That number placed it in third place, behind the Ashton Kutcher vehicle What Happens in Vegas. That movie brought in $20 million, with a $35 million budget.
Iron Man did better than expected, bringing in $51 million this weekend, a 49% decrease from last week's huge opening.

Gossip Girl Recap: The Secret is Out!
It's official, I H-A-T-E Georgina Sparks! The bitch is not only evil, she's a pathological liar. She concocted that bullshit story as easily as she downs a shot of tequila. I cannot believe that she can even look at herself in the morning after everything that demon witch has pulled. It's that exact reason why I cannot wait for her inevitably delicious downfall.
Also on my shit list this week is Dan. For someone who is so smart, he is dense as hell. Even Stevie Wonder could see Serena was lying about sleeping with that guy. After months of happily-coupled bliss, she just, all-of-the-sudden, begins to lie and cheat? Come on! He is also stupid with Sarah/Georgina/Demon bitch, whose crap he drank up like those coffees he bought for them. It's almost pathetic. I cannot wait for the look on Dan's face when he learns that the girl he slept with (unless by some godgiven blessing, he couldn't get it up) is an evil, lying, manipulating, drug-addict shedevil.
Onto the big reveal. I figured that Serena didn't actually kill someone, but the situations were even less dire. After he thing with Nate at that weding, she ran off to some hotel party, where Georgina set up a sex tape scenario with some guy named Pete. She was too drunk and depressed to do it, so she told the guy to do some Coke, that he provided. He did, and he died. The guilt ate Serena up, and that same night she catched a train up north and began her exile. It turns out that Serena's guilt comes from not an actual crime, but from being a good person and not some soulless monster. See why I hate Georgina?
Some other stuff happened, but I wasn't really paying attention to that stuff. It was nice seeing Dan, Blair, and Chuck work together, although previews indicate it won't last long. Also, Lily and Rufus kiss, which could potentially throw her marriage into jeopardy.
The season finale is next week, and I seriously can't wait. It seems like Georgina will FINALLY be exposed. I'll be DVRing it, for sure.

Song Review: Jennifer Hudson's Dressed Up in Love
In two weeks, women across the country will storm the theaters to see their favorite foursome, Carrie, Samantha, Charlottle, and Miranda, drink Cosmopolitans, get married (or almost) and have lots of sex (or at least Samantha). During that film, they will most likely hear this little ditty by co-star Jennifer Hudson.
The Oscar-winner hasn't done much musically since Dreamgirls. Her debut album has a November release, so this song will have to do for all of her fans.
Speaking of Dreamgirls, this song could've been on that soundtrack too. It's a very retro, old-fashioned song; something you would hear sung by Shirley Bassey or Nancy Sinatra. That doesn't mean its a bad song, because its a pretty good song with some nice lyrics about love being an outfit. It's just a song that has to grow on you, like it did me. Unfortunately, thanks to the fast-paced music industry of late, her song wouldn't be given a real chance to blow up. Then again, really good songs should take off instantly.
Clive Davis really needs to get Jennifer some nicer, younger material, because of this is what her new album will consist of, then J-Hud should stick with acting.
Rating: 6/10
Pick it Up! Duffy's Rockferry This Tuesday!
Welsh singer Duffy's new album Rockferry is coming to US shores this week!
The singer's album is full of contemporary-yet-retro songs, including DOTDs like "Warwick Avenue" and her burgeoning pop hit "Mercy". Rockferry is already a best-seller in the United Kingdom and in other places around the world.
For New Yorkers, Duffy will be appearing at the Union Square Virgin Megastore next week to sign copies of the album!
David Archuleta's Dad BANNED from American Idol Backstage!
News of Jeff Archuleta's micro-managing has been widely reported, and the Idol producers are sick of it!
David Archuleta's father has been banned from working with his son backstage as the talent competition winds down. He will still be able to sit in the audience, but any influence Jeff has on David's song choices, arrangements, or anything else has been stripped.
The decision came after Jeff insisted David sing a verse from Sean Kingston monster hit "Beautiful Girls". The extra lyrics forced the producers to pay more money to the record company than initially planned.
Jeff Archuleta's antics were first reported when he unintentionally sabotaged his son's performance during the first week of the Top 12. During rehearsals, he allegedly screamed at David, bringing him to tears. It is believed that is why he delivered his painful, lyrically-challenged performance of "We Can Work It Out" for the first Beatles week. Naomi Judd, who was once a judge on "Star Search" while David was competing, has also called out Jeff has a stage dad from hell. His behavior was so outlandish that he had to be placed in a security guard's box. Reports also claim that he harassed Tiffany Evans, who won Star Search with phone calls, among other things.
I'm, for one, glad he is banned. Any parent who would drive a kid, already stressed at from the daily Idol grind, to tears is despicable. Hopefully, it won't derail Archuleta's current and future success.

Whitney's Back! Her Triumphant London Performance!

Weeks after her disastrous appearance at a Tobago jazz festival, Whitney shows the UK why she is "The Voice".
The pop queen performed yesterday at the Caudwell Children's Legends Ball in London, to magnificent reviews. A guest told People Magazine that she "both looked and sounded amazing". In an hour-long performance, she sang many of her chart-toppers, including "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", "Greatest Love of All" and her signature "I Will Always Love You".
Whitney's comeback performance comes after her terrible showing at the Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago, where her voice was ragged and she called out a different country's name. Many considered that performance as a sign of how her storied drug use damaged her legendary voice.
Apparently though, those fears can be put to rest!
Leona Lewis Continues Smashing Records!
Can all you Leona haters shut up now?
Leona Lewis, the international singing sensation, has continued to smash US chart records!
"Bleeding Love", Leona's worldwide smash, stayed at #1 this week, her first consecutive run so far. "Bleeding" is the first song by a British female solo artist to remain at #1 for 4 weeks. The song has sold 1.75 million copies in the US to date, heading towards double platinum. Also, the ringtone has been certified gold for over 500,000 copies sold!
On the radio side, "Bleeding Love" has officially broken the record for most spins in one week on pop radio, set by OneRepublic's "Apologize". Leona's song has garner 10,665 plays last week, and unbelievable number!
In other Leona news, she will be appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman on May 20th. Don't forget to check it out!

OMFG! Hugh Hefner Wants Miley Cyrus in Playboy!
The ick statutory factor has just been increased 30-fold!
The infamous Hugh Hefner, the head of Playboy, has told TV show Extra that he wants Miley Cyrus to pose for the magazine when she becomes legal!
He told Extra, “Sure, she’d be welcomed in the magazine. Very pretty lady. And I think to make such a big to do over something as innocent as those photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality."
The shocking (and gross) invitation comes off the heels of Miley's career-changing semi-nude photo spread in Vanity Fair.
OK, Hefner is like 100 years old, and yet he is thinking of a 15-year old as nude centerfold?! That is so freaking gross! I mean, the octogenarian has 5 girlfriends; isn't that enough without a tween pop star!
Miley, don't you DARE consider this!!

Billboard Album Chart Update: Madonna's "Candy" Sells!
Whatever candy Madonna's selling, people are buying!
Madonna's latest effort Hard Candy has hit the top of the Billboard 200, with 280,000 copies sold in its first week. She is currently has the second-most #1 albums for a female artist; only Barbra Streisand has more with 8 #1 records.
Mariah Carey's album E=MC2 slips to second place with 95,000 sold, a 45% drop from last week. Leona's debut Spirit also slips one place to #3, with 84,000 copies sold.
The second highest debut goes to Lyfe Jennings, whose album Lyfe Change sold 80,000 to chart at #4.
Ashlee Simpson's album Little Miss Obsessive plummets from 4 to 31, selling only 17,000 copies.

Download of the Day 5/6: "If I Never See Your Face Again" by Maroon 5 and Rihanna
Whoever came up with this idea is VERY smart!
For Maroon 5's fourth single from their album It Won't Be Soon Before Long, they chose one of the highlights "If I Never See Your Face Again". Instead of the album version, they remixed it and added some girl. You may know who she is. I think her name is Rihanna?
It is a really good remix of the song. Although I enjoyed the original, this one is funkier and more fun. I like Maroon 5 when they let themselves loose. I was also surprised how easily Adam Levine's and Rihanna's voices meshed together. His voice is always fantastic, but hers was exceptionally good, better than it usually is.
I have been reading reviews on iTunes and there are some die-hard fans who are disgusted by this duet. I don't mean to be rude, but they should lighten up. I don't see how working with a fellow chart-topper is career damaging. It was a very smart move for both parties.

Girls Aloud's Cheryl Cole: Ashley's Affair Nearly Cracked Me Up
Cheryl Cole, of the UK's pop group Girls Aloud, has put on a brave face after her husband Ashley's humiliating affair derailed their marriage. It turns out that behind closed doors, Cheryl dealt with loads of pain.
In a interview with the Daily Mirror as Girls Aloud launched their "Tangled Up" tour in Belfast, Ireland this past week, she revealed:
I felt like cracking up at times. But its made me realize there are people out there a million times worse off than me. People see me as a role model, but I want them to see I'm human and I make mistakes. I'm not perfect. I want the young girls to learn from my mistakes.
The pop star has yet to put her wedding ring on after she agreed to reunite with her cheating soccer player husband. She has instead focused on her career.
As much as I love seeing men who cheat on hot women squirm, I hope they can work things out. Go Cheryl!
American Idol Top 4 Recap: Three Rocked, One Rolled
If you don't know who is going home this week, you are insane.
David Cook - He sang "Hungry Like The Wolf" first, a really odd choice for him. I wasn't really feeling it. His second, "Teenage Wasteland", was MUCH better. Seriously, if you can really sing, you can sing everything. It was great.
Syesha Mercado - Let's be honest here: Tina Turner, at 68 years old during this year's Grammys, gave a more convincing performance. When a woman 3 times your age is outperforming you, you've got a problem. She made up for it in the second performance, though. Her voice was on point, especially at the end.
Jason Castro - His performance of "I Shot The Sheriff" was an absolute disaster, although to credit, it was his liveliest performance to date. His next performance "Mr. Tambourine Man" bored me to tears. Simon was right; pack your bags Jason.
David Archuleta - "Stand By Me" was a terribly obvious choice, but it was a great vocal, as always. I also liked the little "Beautiful Girls" injection toward the end. The next performance, "Love Me Tender", was exactly that, tender and sweet. Unfortunately, nothing compares to the original Elvis version. Still, he was the Best of the Night.
If there is an justice, Who's Going Home: Jason Castro.
Song Review: "On My Way Here" by Clay Aiken
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Clay Aiken, the runner-up of American Idol Season 2 and the most successful runner-up ever, is back with his 3rd release, On My Way Here. It's interesting that he would release an album while he is on Broadway, too busy to promote it. A similar lack of promo lead to his last release in 2006 to cap off at 500k. Hopefully, RCA won't make the same mistake.
The first single off the album is the title track. Written by Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, it is a pretty standard piano pop ballad. The song is about a person's journey through their life and how events shape it. Lyrically, its a very nice song, but for me, it lacks that kind of passion his songs had in the past. Think of "Apologize", or "Bleeding Love", or even "Stop and Stare". The words of those songs really have some meat to them. They invoke a certain feeling, whether its defiance, sadness, or remorse. "On My Way Here" doesn't really satisfy any emotion. Its just a nice song.
Unless, of course, he wrote a generic song so that Clay Aiken's voice could really shine. It does. He still has that beautiful tone to his voice that won him a legion of fans during the second season. 5 years has brought a lot of changes to Clay (hair, controversy), but that voice has remained solid. That said, he doesn't bring much to the song besides the obvious. He does sing it with a passion, as he always does, but then again, there is really no passion to pull from.
There is nothing wrong with Clay. It's just the song. It would have been better if Clay kick off his new album with a song that was powerful, both lyrically and vocally. Instead, he stuck this blandness to review.
His album "On My Way Here", is released today in stores and on iTunes.
RATING: 6.5/10
Leona to SMASH Airplay Record!

Gossip Girl: Just When You Thought You Knew Everything...
IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS EPISODE YET AND DON'T LIKE SPOILERS, IGNORE THIS POST!
Talk about a cliffhanger!
The last 30 seconds of this week's Gossip Girl quite simply shocked me. I have spent the last two weeks trying to figure out what she did that was so bad. Everything from marriage to rape went through my head, but NEVER did I guess murder.
Before I get into that, let's talk about the other shocker revealed today. It turns out that Jenny's new boyfriend Asher is gay, and his boyfriend is none other than Eric Van Der Woodsen, Serena's little brother. You would think that Jenny would be outraged when she found her boyfriend she was using was actually using her. Instead, she further sullied both her reputation and her dignity by not only going along with the lie, but adding to it; 15 year-old Jenny lost her virginity to him. All the lies were exposed during Jenny's big party, courtesy of Eric and Blair. Surprisingly, Jenny's "friends" value honesty. GMAB.
Georgina continues raising hell in Serena's life. She befriended Vanessa and Dan as "Sarah", and outed Eric at a family dinner. Let's not forget about that video she sent Serena of whatever she did wrong. I thought Blair was a bitch, but apparently I was wrong. Georgina makes Blair look like Mary Sunshine.
Onto the shocker. So THAT'S the reason why she left New York. I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that Serena actually killed someone, or at least was responsible in someone's death. What's even more shocking is Georgina's lack of response. It's almost like she doesn't care. That is truly evil.
It appears that the revelation will launch Serena's downfall. According to next week's preview, she completely falls off every wagon and even cheats on Dan? It's going to be some serious DRAMA!
