Me to Sony BMG: Drop The Lawsuit Against Perez!

Now, I am not to defend Perez Hilton of all people, but this is just wrong!

Sony BMG is suing Perez Hilton because of song clips he put on his website that were allegedly from Britney Spears' album Blackout. He is being slapped with a lawsuit despite the fact the songs were already available before appearing on Perez's website and that he only streamed them.

What is really annoying about this is that Perez heavily promotes Sony BMG's artists, for free. Perez's website is one of the most influential right now, with millions visiting his blog a month. To sue someone who really is an ally is absurd.

The argument for Sony BMG is that streaming her songs could affect album sales. That is a load of bull, and they have to know it. If anything, the leaked songs gave press to Britney's colossal flop of an album. It's not Perez's fault that Blackout barely sold 500,000 copies. It's Britney's fault.

I don't understand why record companies don't use the internet to their advantage. With websites like Perez, TMZ, and YouTube around, you have TONS of advertising. Instead of removing YouTube videos of artists' music, they could put up special tracks themselves. That way, the listener has more of an incentive to buy the record. It's common sense, for heaven's sake! Instead of suing Perez, Sony BMG could've sent him a cease-and-desist message. They could've also worked with him, sending him exclusive music to promote on his website.

It just seems so childish for a major label to go after someone who has only helped them in the past. Yes, he is a rude ass, but he is good business. It's practices like this that are signaling the collapse of the record industry.

If Sony BMG wants to save any face, they will definitely drop the insulting and ridiculous against Perez Hilton.

Here is the link to Perez's post about the matter:

Reunion News: New Kids On The Block to Appear on Today Show!

image It's been speculated for months, but it has officially been confirmed that all five members of New Kids On The Block will be reuniting for a performance on the Today Show. The exclusive appearance will happen on April 4th. Their reunion marks the 20th anniversary of their multi-platinum album Hangin' Tough. Rumors are surfacing that the reunion may also include a tour, and possibly a greatest hits album.

Since their breakup in 1994, all of the members have been met with varying degrees of success. Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre reinvigorated their pop careers in the late 90s. Donnie Wahlberg became an actor, appearing in The Sixth Sense  and the TV show Boomtown. Danny Wood also launched a solo career. Suffering from severe anxiety attacks, Jordan's brother Jonathan left show business altogether and became a recluse to recover. He last appeared on Oprah to discuss his panic attacks.

NKOTB became a global sensation following the release of their sophomore album Hangin' Tough. The album sold 8 million copies and spawned 5 Top 10 singles, including 2 #1 singles. By their breakup, they sold over 50 million copies worldwide and performed across the world in sold-out concert tours.

Perez Hilton in Lawsuit Drama with Sony BMG!

Have you ever wondered why the world's biggest gossip blogger Perez Hilton hasn't mentioned some of his favorite artists in a while?

That's because many of them are on the Sony BMG music label, who are suing him!

Perez is being sued by record company Sony BMG after he posted songs that were supposedly from Britney Spears' album Blackout back in November of last year. The songs were leaked online by someone else before he posted them on his blog, he claimed during an interview with BBC's Radio 1 a few days ago.

As a result of the lawsuit, Perez is refusing to talk about anyone from Sony BMG, including his favorites Leona Lewis, Celine Dion, and more, until the lawsuit is resolved. He said that he refused to give a company free promotion if they are treating him so badly.

Well, what do you think? Unfair to the artists? Unfair to Perez? Honestly, I'm stuck on this one.

Another Hollywood Strike?? Actor Unions Split in Contract Talks

As one strike winds down, another potentially begins...

In a really bad sign, the two actor unions have decided to split instead of unite in time for their contract negotiations with Hollywood producers. The American Federation for Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild have forgone an alliance and bitterly split over the weekend, potentially damaging the actors' chances of scoring a new contract the easy way. Their contract is up on June 30th.

An overstep of boundaries have reportedly caused the split. AFTRA was infuriated when SAG attempted to represent actors from daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. The power play led to AFTRA president Roberta Reardon calling SAG an untrustworthy group who have attempted to undermine AFTRA for a long time in trade magazine Variety. Alan Rosenberg, the president of SAG, rebutted by say he was tired to AFTRA's trust lectures.

Many actors including George Clooney and Meryl Streep asked for negotiations to begin back in February to avoid another Hollywood strike. However, this latest news may significantly damage the chances of a peaceful resolution.

The Screen Actors Guild consists of 120,000 members, while the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists holds 70,000 members

Inquest Judge: Royal Family DIDN'T Kill Princess Diana

image At today's wrap-up of the Princess Diana inquest, Lord Scott Baker stated that the evidence presented did not uncover any possible connection to the British Royal Family. After 6 months and over 250 witnesses testifying, the judge stated that "there is no evidence that the Duke of Edinburgh ordered Diana's execution and there is no evidence that the security intelligence service or any other government agency organized it."

Mohammad Al Fayed, father of Dodi Al Fayed, the man who died alongside Diana, has maintained the belief that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen's husband, had plotted with British intelligence services to kill Diana in the August 31th 1997 car crash. Allegedly, he wanted her dead to prevent the possibility of Princes William and Harry having a Muslim stepfather and half-brother. When Al Fayed testified a few weeks back, he accused Prince Philip of being a Nazi and a racist; he also compared the Royal Family to Dracula.

The judge decided not to call the Queen and Prince Philip to the stand because of the lack of evidence.

Introducing....French First Lady Carla Bruni

image For 11 years, the world has been missing a fashion icon with a connection to politics. Since the death of Princess Diana, there hasn't been a woman who embodied style and elegance in the field of diplomacy.

Well, it seems that Diana's designer shoes have finally been filled.

The woman doing so is the First Lady of France, Carla Bruni. The Italian ex-model and singer wowed the UK when she accompanied President Nikolas Sarkozy on her first official state visit. The newspapers went crazy over the woman's beauty and began comparing her to both Diana and First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

The French First Lady has caused an international frenzy after her diplomatic success in the UK. Thousands of requests for interviews and visits have come for Carla after seeing how she handled her first taste of foreign success. Magazines have seen sale increases after they put her on the cover. Even auction house Christie's is getting on the Carla train. A naked photo of her taken during her supermodel days is up for sale, to benefit charity. The fashion house Christian Dior, who provided all of her outfits for the UK tour, has circulated her pictures as advertisements.

If the UK visit is any indication, the world better prepare for Carla Bruni!

This...Is Why Ashley Cole Is An Idiot!

If you need evidence as to why Ashley Cole is a retard for cheating on his wife, Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole, then check out this video! It's will.i.am's new video "Heartbreaker".

BTW, for Americans who don't know who she is, she is wearing a gold mini-dress with the belt in the beginning and a pink hoodie at the end.

Princess Diana Case Finally Put To Rest

2459-14-photo After a decade of rampant speculation and a sensational court case, the  judge appointed to the inquest into Diana, Princess of Wales' shocking death will wrap-up everything on Monday and send the jury to decide.

On August 31st, 1997, the world woke up to the devastating news that Britain's Princess Diana was killed in a car crash alongside her love Dodi Al Fayed. What followed was an unprecedented display of worldwide grief. Her funeral was watched by 1/3 of the world's population, her charity single performed by Elton John is the second highest-selling single in world history. Millions of dollars were made off of her image; from random memorabilia to tell-all books by those who knew her best.

Her death was so sudden and shocking, many found a simple car crash too easy to reconcile. She was, of course, the most photographed woman in the world. She had to have been involved in some elaborate scheme that took her life, right?

image That was the argument of Mohammed Al Fayed, the father of Dodi Al Fayed. He insisted that she was killed by MI5 in an attempt to keep from marrying a Muslim man. Behind the supposed hit? Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen's husband. Along with those allegations, Al Fayed claimed that Diana and Dodi were engaged and she was pregnant.

His allegations along with morbid public curiosity led to an inquest being called two weeks after the Princess's 46th birthday. Led by Lord Scott Baker, the inquest cost about 10 million pounds and has lasted about 9 months. Over 250 witness were called, including Diana's stepmother Raine Spencer, her butler Paul Burrell, and of course, Al Fayed.

What followed was more of a tell-all book than a serious investigation into the loss of one of the most influential women of the 20th century. Details about Diana's love life were revealed in court and splashed across British newspapers, as they were ten years ago. The most scandalous of the testimonies was that of Al Fayed, who raged against the British Royal Family and called Prince Philip a racist Nazi.

image Paul Burrell, who released a book in 2002 that blew the lid off of Diana's life, was revealed as a perjurer when The Sun uncovered a video of him admitting to lying. It was also revealed that Burrell took a ring off of her corpse.

imageAfter all of the drama, the testimonies have ended and now, the judge will call for the jury to decide: was Diana murdered or was it an accident? After nearly 11 years, it will all come down to this verdict; there will never be an investigation or inquest of this scale, unless someone confesses.

When the jury delivers their verdict, it will hopefully mean that Diana, Princess of Wales will finally receive the peace that has eluded her in both life and death.

Mariah Carey: The Road to 18 (Part 3)

Here is the third installment of the Mariah Special:

"Heartbreaker" (1999) - The song was perfect for summer; it was a fun groove of a song with an expensive video. The song debuted Mariah's latest vocal style; breathy verses before a full-voiced climax. It was a nice song, but like her last #1, it wasn't a memorable song for her. It was, however, for Jay-Z, whose rap in the song helped carry it a bit. Rating 7/10

"Thank God I Found You" (2000) - Despite the employment of 98 Degrees and Joe as vocal collaborators, the song was very uninspiring. The original received very little airplay and the remix was released to save it. The string of sub-par #1 singles ended with this one, as her new singles released in the next 4 years would barely chart at all. Rating: 6.5/10

image "We Belong Together" (2005) - After 5 years of no chart-topping singles, "We Belong Together" was truly a return to form. Her last two albums Glitter and Charmbracelet were utter failures, and many deemed her career over. Thanks to this song, faith was truly restored. The passionate song brought Mariah back to vocal power that disappeared after Butterfly. The song employed the MOR pop of her early 90s success with her R&B flavor of the late 90s. The fusion worked amazingly. The song stayed on top for 14 weeks, her longest run as a solo artist. Rating: 10/10

"Don't Forget About Us" (2005) - It was fairly obvious that this song was a follow-up to "We Belong Together". Although not as inspired, it continued her resurgence as the premier pop diva. It was her first ballad that was completely influenced by R&B, and it worked well. It was the first #1 of 2006, and helped the release of Mariah's comeback The Emancipation of Mimi sell an amazing 6 million copies in the US, and 10 million worldwide.

BWU Recommends - Vision of Love, We Belong Together, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby

Mariah Carey: Road to 18 (Part 2)

Here is the second installment of my Mariah Carey special post:

"Dreamlover" (1993) - For many reasons, "Dreamlover" is a favorite of many Mariah Carey fans. It is one of her most creative efforts (the choir piano being worked in was a stroke of genius), and for the first time, her vocals were not the focus. She had fun with the song, not worrying about how many high notes she can hit. Fans were able to tell, and rewarded her for it; it sat atop the charts for 9 weeks. Rating: 9/10

image "Hero" (1993) - Her first chart-topping ballad since "I Don't Wanna Cry", this song is one of her signature songs. Again, Mariah sang with a conviction and passion that had surprised the critics who accused her of doing the exact opposite. The inspirational song is a perennial favorite of mine, and many more, selling 3 million copies worldwide. Rating: 9.5/10

"Fantasy" (1995) - This song marked a transformation for Mariah. In place of her conservative look and MOR Pop style, the diva sailed into the #1 position with this upbeat R&B song. It became the second song in history to debut at #1 and sat there for 8 weeks. The inspired song revitalized Mariah's music and help the album Daydream sell 25 million copies worldwide. Rating: 9/10image

"One Sweet Day" (1995) - Her duet with Boyz II Men was a hugely  successful song. It debuted at #1 and stayed there for a mind-blowing 16 weeks, becoming Mariah's 10th chart-topper. It is a beautiful song that gave comfort to those who lost their loved ones. Wisely, Mariah restrains her vocals to match the R&B supergroup, creating a stunning vocal. Rating: 10/10

"Always Be My Baby" (1996) - It's with this song where I noticed a vocal change with Mariah. During the verses, she employed a softer tone than many of her full-voiced singles. The new technique really fit this song. The song had a smooth groove than her songs in the past, furthering her shift into R&B. It, again, is one of her best (with the catchiest chorus). Rating: 9/10

image"Honey" (1997) - "Honey" was a breaking point for the diva. Gone was  the ballads and uptemo pop songs of the past. Here, a stronger, sexier Mariah burst out with this hip-hop influenced jam. The overt vocal power that propelled those songs also began to dim, making the songstress even sultrier. The change was welcome; the song debuted at #1 and stayed there for three weeks. Rating: 8/10

"My All" (1998) - Just like "Honey" was, the single was accompanied with a very sexy video. However, that and the Latin-tinged background couldn't help this song from being a disappointment. Her last 5 or so songs stayed on top for multiple weeks. This one only charted for 1 week, before slipping to #2. Honestly, it was her weakest song since "I Don't Wanna Cry". Rating: 7/10

Mariah Carey: The Road to 18 (Part 1)

In commemoration of Mariah Carey's impending 18th #1 single, I have decided to examine her past 17 #1's, from her debut "Vision of Love" to "Don't Forget About Us". Here it is:

image "Vision of Love" (1990) - It was with this gem that a star was born. Her debut single was everything a debut should be, bombastic, affecting, and memorable. From her powerful vocal flourishes to her unbelievable whistle register, "Vision of Love" made the desired impact; her self-titled debut album sold a staggering 9 million copies in the US and she received two Grammys. It is still, even today, one of her best songs (if it was re-released, it would definitely be a "Download of the Day". Rating: 10/10

"Love Takes Time" (1990) - The follow-up to her blockbuster debut was a great ballad for sure, and once again, that impeccable voice got a proper showcase, but it seemed like a step-down for the diva. 18 years after it was released, it's song you have to dig deep in your memory to recall. Rating: 7.5/10

"Someday" (1991) - This song was Mariah's first foray into the upbeatimage style of music. It's one of my personal favorites, mostly because it's an example of the passion and conviction critics say is lacking in Mariah's voice. Plus, its a really fun song to listen to. Rating 8.5/10

"I Don't Wanna Cry" (1991) - Mariah returned to ballads with "I Don't Wanna Cry", a song about giving up a love that is broken. This song is another perfectly fine ballad, with an amazing climax that truly wowed listeners. Yet again, however, there are far more memorable songs than this and her second #1, which makes one wonder whether Carey Fever drove this single to #1 instead of actual desire to buy.

"Emotions" (1991) - Mariah's first single from her second album Emotions was another dip into the dance genre. The song served two purposes: two prove Mariah wasn't a dreary balladeer and she could hit those stunning high notes like a pro. Both goals were met greatly. Rating: 8/10

image "I'll Be There" (1992) - After "Can't Let Go" and "Make It Happen" failed to top the charts, there were worries whether or not Carey's popularity was dropping. Then, there were those pesky critics who claimed Carey's voice was fake and studio-influenced. To silence them and to prove her vitality as an artist, Mariah went on MTV Unplugged. When she performed the Jackson 5 classic, there were so many request, her record label released it as a single. It became her biggest international success worldwide at the time, and solidified Mariah's career. Rating: 8/10

Don't Miss...The Tudors

There is a lot of hype of the Season 2 premiere of The Tudors on Showtime on Sunday, so I decided to check it out.

The series is brilliant.

The Tudors is about the young life of the infamous Henry VIII, the king of England known for beheading his wives. This is set before that, with Henry settling into the role as one of the most powerful men in the world. The story encompasses everything from Henry's political maneuvers to his fabled sex life. As you would expect, its full of sex, drama, and a smidgen of murder, like every Showtime series. But there is something that sets it apart, more importantly, someone.

One of the most impressive things about the show is Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the actor who plays King Henry. Like a ruler, he commands every scene he's in. His screen presence at times can be downright spellbinding. Although many know Henry VIII as a portly, large man, Rhys Meyers is that powerful of a portrayer you can forgive the difference in stature. Despite the king's reputation as a fearful, merciless leader, Rhys Meyers also makes the character identifiable and sympathetic. It reminds one of Helen Mirren's stirring Oscar-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II in the movie "The Queen". Both leaders appear standoffish when examined in their chosen time periods (Elizabeth II during the weeks after Princess Diana's shocking death), but the intelligent, powerful performances by their actors make the larger-than-life figures sympathetic.

Along with the supporting players, The Tudors is truly a sight to behold. Dramatic, suspenseful, and even romantic in bits, its a tour de force in period pieces, and should not be missed.

The Tudors Season 2 premieres tomorrow at 9 pm EST.

Have 4.7 million people lost their mind? The Hills Premiere

the-hills-400a-082207 Apparently (and shockingly), millions of people rejoiced when America's favorite  fake-reality MTV killer The Hills premiered on Monday night. For the "special" occasion, they held a premiere party, where Mariah Carey performed.

Whether it was Mariah or the desire to follow the exploits of Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, and the others, The Hills had its highest premiere yet, bringing in an average 4.7 million viewers.

4.7 million?

Really?

Was it because of the naked pictures of Audrina?

Was it because of US Weekly's shameless promotion of talentless, tacky, overall gross Heidi?

Was it because there was nothing else on?

Or do people actually think this show is really good?

Either way, The Hills received more viewers than last year's anemic VMA's.

Things aren't looking good for MTV.

LA Times Recants Shocking Diddy Link to Tupac Shooting

The Los Angeles Times apologized today after publishing a report implying that rapper/music mogul Diddy had prior knowledge of a 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur.

The robbing and shooting of Shakur at a New York recording studio launched the infamous East Coast/West Coast rap war that took the lives of Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., a close friend of Diddy's. Had the article been true, it would've meant Diddy had an indirect cause in his best friend's shocking and devastating murder.

The LA Times article was based off of FBI reports that were revealed to be fabricated by a prison inmate. The Smoking Gun website exposed the hoax, forcing the LA Times to apologize for the shocking article.

Russ Stanton, the editor of the Times, made this statement: "The bottom line is that the documents we relied on should not have been used....We apologize both to our readers and to those referenced in the documents ... and in the story."

The writer of the article was Pulitzer Prize-winner Chuck Philips, who also made an apology on the LA Times website. He said that he wished he did more research, despite working with an ex-FBI agent on examining the faux documents. The attorney for Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, said that the apology was a"first step", but that the damage was done already.

I have to agree with the lawyer. The death of the Notorious B.I.G. is a wound that Diddy will never recover from. Then, to face accusations that he may have caused the rap war that took his best friend's life must have been truly horrific.

I'm not suggesting that Chuck Philips is fired, but a simple apology really isn't enough.

An Interesting Read....

This blog post is about how Mariah Carey's record label "bought" next week's potential #1 "Touch My Body". I love Mariah, but John makes some good points.

I suggest reading it.

Download of the Day 3/27: Fall Out Boy's "Beat It" with John Mayer

Michael Jackson is a genius.

No matter what is said about his personal life, Michael Jackson is a true musical genius.

Like other geniuses, his work should remain untouched.

Then again, when you have the lungs of Patrick Stump, then maybe that rule can be re-examined.

In a completely bold and daring move, America's premier rock group Fall Out Boy has done a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" with, of all people, John Mayer.

I know, WTF?

Anyway, listening to their version simply solidifies the timelessness of Michael's landmark album Thriller. 25 years after the song's original release, it still sounds current and original. Overall, I think they did a fantastic job with the song. of course, NOTHING can beat the original, but this is probably the best MJ cover I have ever heard. Patrick Stump goes all out here, ripping the song to vocal shreds (in a good way). Musically, the song sounds fresh and interesting without changing the original composition. It's funny, because when doing a cover, I suggest straying as far away from the original as possible.

Apparently, MJ is going through some financial trouble. Thanks to FOB, those troubles may be over.

Billboard Update: Leona, Danity Kane Reaches The Penthouse!

image On this week's Hot 100, Leona Lewis' first single "Bleeding Love" has shot up from 8 to the top spot this week, thanks to a surge of downloads totaling up to 219,000. Leona makes history as the first British female to go to #1 with their first single in over 20 years. Leona pushed Usher down to #2 this week. Ray J scores his highest peak single with "Sexy Can I" moving up to #3. Downloads helped both Lil Wayne (Lollipop) and Lil Mama (Shawty Get Loose) crack the top 10.

The Hot Shot Debut is Flo Rida's "Roll" at #63, while Madonna's single "4 Minutes" charts at #68 on airplay only.

On the Billboard 200, Diddy's group Danity Kane's album "Welcome to the Dollhouse" charts at #1 with the second-highest week sales of the year so far. This is Danity Kane's second #1 album, following their debut. Flo Rida's debut album "Mail on Sunday" bows at #4, with sales of 86,000.

Kristy Lee Strikes Again! American Idol Results Recap!

And this time, she wasn't even in the bottom three!

Her strategic performance of "God Bless The USA" worked, as she escaped elimination for another week, sending another good contestant home.

So far, this was the most surprising bottom three. Jason Castro, a fan favorite, ended up with Syesha and Chikezie on those dreaded stools. Not for long, though, because was quickly ushered to safety. That left Syesha and Chikezie in the bottom 2. I called it, meaning Chikezie was 3rd contestant to go home in the Top 12.

Seriously, should we be expecting Kristy Lee to pull out the Sanjaya faux-hawk soon?

LEONA'S #1! LEONA'S #1!

I have OFFICIAL confirmation that Leona Lewis' single "Bleeding Love" is #1 this week on the Hot 100!

Leona is the first female British artist in two decades to have her debut single chart at #1!

It was the huge surge of downloads that knocked Usher off the summit this week! It ended up overpowering his heavy airplay!

GO LEONA!

CHART UPDATE: Leona's #1 on Digital Songs, Hot 100 Chances Raised!

According to a variety of sources, Leona Lewis' single "Bleeding Love" sold 219,237 copies last week, compared to Usher's 138,414 copies. When airplay is added, Leona has more barely more points than Usher. This means she could go to the top spot this week! However, this is before online streaming and physical sales are counted.

Her sales make her #1 on this week's Hot Digital Songs, her first #1 in the United States!

As of this week, according to Wikipedia, Leona has sold over 500,000 copies, making "Bleeding Love" her first gold single in the United States!

The official Billboard Hot 100 will be released tomorrow morning.

Download of the Day: "Touch My Body" by Mariah Carey

"Cuz if you run your mouth and drag about this secret rendezvous, I will hunt you down."

That lyric is only a fraction of the dirtiness that is Mariah Carey's newest single "Touch My Body". Like never before, Mariah is talking frankly about sex. It is definitely a newer side to the diva, who is entering her 18th year in the music business. The jury is still out on whether it's a side we want to continue seeing.

As for the music, it is really catchy, like most R&B productions these days. The lyrics are both suggestive and slightly clever and her voice sounds good. Once again, though, I feel like this song is a bit of a cop-out for her. "Touch My Body" as a song is beneath the work Mariah is famous for, even compared to her upbeat stuff. When lined up with "Honey', "Dreamlover", even "Shake it Off", her latest effort falls short of the diva's standard. Despite the slightly-lowered quality, it is a fine song that, according to iTunes sales, will likely go to #1 next week. But, and I say this as a Mariah lover, I'm not sure this song should be her record-breaking 18th #1 single.

RATING: 7/10

CHART BATTLE: Mariah Tops iTunes, Leona Falls to Second Place

image Today's iTunes chart shows that Mariah Carey's latest single "Touch My Body" has gone to #1, pushing Leona down to #2. There is a significant gap between their sales, which would imply that Mariah Carey will have extremely high chances of going to #1 on next week's Billboard Hot 100. Leona still has a comfortable lead above the other songs, even though she's at #2.

Madonna's new single with Justin Timberlake "4 Minutes" has also charted at #8 on the iTunes chart after a day of availability. She has more success on the Album chart, where the Deluxe version sits at #3.

Other new entries is Fall Out Boy's version of "Beat It" with John Mayer at #22.

American Idol Top 10 Recap: Shifting Ground

This week's American Idol was actually one of the best so far. There was no one truly bad, so instead of doing best and worst, I'll just go through each one and analyze them.

David Cook with "Billie Jean" - It was absolute genius. Seriously, doing Michael Jackson is risky. Doing 80s Michael Jackson is almost suicide. However, like a smart artist would, he turned the pop masterclass into an emo-style rock power ballad. It was awesome. Then there was the minute-long mega note. He just secured a top three position with that performance. Best of the Night.

David Archuleta with "You're The Voice" - Bless David A's heart, but that was the corniest performance ever. Don't get me wrong, it was great vocally. That's not surprising. What was surprising was how much it should've been at Disney World with Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto dancing with him. It was the wrong song choice.

Chikezie with "If Only For One Night" - I was so bored I couldn't believe it. First off, singing Luther isn't a good choice, especially if you're not doing anything with it. It wasn't impressive, and I wasn't trying to fall asleep.

Kristy Lee Cook with "God Bless The USA" - That sneaky bleep. She made the second smartest song choice of the night with the Lee Greenwood classic. She didn't sing out of true patriotism. She knew all the Middle America fans who vote for her would love it. She's not going anywhere tomorrow, unfortunately.

Syesha Mercado with "If I Were Your Woman" - She was amazing tonight. Vocally, it was pitch-perfect. She sounded like a confident AI diva, and like Simon said, it was her defining performance.

Michael Johns with "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" - I didn't really care for it, actually. There are times when it was really sharp and pitchy, and I love Queen. He really has yet to find a good song for him, which is NOT a good thing.

Jason Castro - I detest Simon's suggestion that Jason isn't taking the contest seriously. Granted the performance was a bit blah, I think all of them take this seriously. Asshole.

Ramiele Mulabay with "Alone" - Whenever I think of this song on AI, I think of Carrie Underwood in Season 5. This song helped solidify her as the winner for me. Unfortunately, it didn't work for Ramiele. I liked it for what it was, considering that she was sick, but the judges gave her lukewarm reception. I love the girl to bits, but I think she may go home.

Brooke White with "Every Breath You Take" - Brooke made the same mistake David did with "Another Day in Paradise" a while back. She should've forgone the band and played it straight with the piano. Regardless, my Brooke is back.

Carly Smithson with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" - The end note 9a la Celine) was a big honking mess, but the rest was pretty good. It was a few steps down from last week, but still pretty good for me, anyway.

Special "Download": "Better in Time" by Leona Lewis

This separate "Download of the Day" is for a friend of mine who is going through a really rough time.

I think the UK press undersold this song. "Better in Time" is a great, uplifting song about recovering from a break-up. Sure, it may not have been the best choice for the "Sport Relief" charity single, but its a perfectly fine song. As usual, Leona is at her vocal best here. In fact, her chest voice is more apparent here than it is in "Bleeding Love". I have read things saying this song wouldn't be strong enough for an international follow-up to Leona's monster first single. Once again, undersold.

For US fans, the song will be available for download when the album is released on April 8th. If yo haven't pre-ordered your copy, please do so!

Soap Stuff: AMC's Dixie Is Back!

It's been little over a year since All My Children veteran Dixie Cooney was killed off with poisoned pancakes. The storyline outraged fans and many quickly wrote the show off afterwards. Cady McClain went back to rival show As The World Turns, and fans were forced to deal with unrequited desires of seeing supercouple Tad and Dixie together again.

Now, according to soapcentral.com and ABC themselves, Cady McClain is reprising her Daytime Emmy-winning role in May. There is a catch, however. She is returning, AS A GHOST!

Many fans will likely be furious by this turn of events. Honestly, I'm not pleased with it either. Dixie's story is far from over and to officially seal her death away and make Dixie a ghost is just ridiculous. There are SO many ways to have brought her back (for example, David Hayward kidnapped her) instead of the paranormal.

Once again, AMC dropped the ball.

However, I am glad to see Cady back on AMC, and if there is ANY justice, Tad and Dixie will have a proper goodbye that will satisfy the T&D fans who have waited 20 years for this story!!

A Ratings "Mother"load!

The CBS execs may wanted to bring Britney Spear's character Abby back for more episodes.

Britney's TV comeback gave How I Met Your Mother its highest ratings, EVER! According to the Hollywood Reporter, 10.6 million people watched the pop princess return to form, giving the show a rating of 4.5!

Chart Battle Update: Mariah Slips!

I will be covering the Chart Battle between Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, and Madonna in the US for the next two weeks. BWU is the place for all chart news!

Mariah, after debuting on the iTunes chart at #60 and then shooting up to #5, slipped 12 places to #17. Chances are the sales could go back up as the days go on, but as of now, the placement is still rather low.

Leona is still at #1.

Madonna hasn't charted yet.

UPDATE: Mariah is back at #5!

Congrats SOF Bulldogs!

image As a special shout-out, I want to congratulate New York high school School of the Future's baseball team The Bulldogs on their first game and first win against the High School of Health Profession and Human Services yesterday. The Bulldogs won 8-0, with Tyler Scrima pitching a shut-out.

Sorry I couldn't make the game, but going from school to Inwood is WAY too far for me! See you guys at the next game on Wednesday!

Leona and Leno Recap!

I ended up falling asleep before she performed (she was last), but I DVR'ed it!

Once again, Leona hit out of the park with "Bleeding Love". I actually believed that it was better than Oprah, considering she was suffering a cold back then. She looked absolutely stunning (loved the black and white dress) and she seemed ever more confident as she performed.

She received a very warm reception from the audience again, proving that her success in America is nothing but imminent.

Congratulations Leona for another top US performance!

Governor Paterson Did Drugs!

After admitting last week to infidelities in his marriage, newly-minted New York governor David Paterson also admitted to drug use, including cocaine. Around the ages of 22 and 23, Paterson used both cocaine and marijuana. However, he assured the press that he hasn't touched drugs since the 70s. Governor Paterson took over for Governor Eliot Spitzer after he was exposed in a prostitution ring scandal.

Another week of shocking revelations from a legendary governor. First infidelities, and now drug use. Is the new governor any better than the old governor? And, why is he revealing all of this now? It seems to me like he almost asking for public scrutiny!

The Chart Battle Has Begun! Leona vs. Mariah vs. Madonna

Mariah Carey's album E=MC2 has been released for pre-order, along with her long-awaited single "Touch My Body"!

Tomorrow, Madonna's single "4 Minutes" will be released as well!

So, who will top the iTunes Chart by tomorrow night?

So....How Was Britney's TV Appearance?

I couldn't believe it, but Britney's appearance on CBS' How I Met Your Mother wasn't bad.

Really.

She had her funny moments. She didn't overact or anything. In fact, you almost forgot she was Britney Spears.

I've never watched the show before, and I have to say that its a pretty funny show.

Good job, Britney

TV Spotlight: A "Mother" of a Comeback!

image Tonight, on CBS, singer and tabloid trainwreck Britney Spears will return to the proper spotlight on the comedy "How I Met Your Mother". The troubled pop princess plays a receptionist in a dentist's office who has a crush on one of the main characters. This will be her first TV appearance since her disastrous MTV VMA performance back in September.

From the previews I saw on YouTube, I can actually say that this may be VERY promising. She looks and sounds healthier than she has in months. Hell, even her hair looks better (although it's obviously still a weave). She is also quite funny in the clips I saw. Call this premature but it is definitely better than her flop movie Crossroads. Plus, she seems to be actually having fun! Her time in the mental ward has definitely worked its wonders.

Now, all she has to do is return to the musical stage!

How I Met Your Mother comes on CBS at 8:30pm EST.

You HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!! Kimora's Plans for Deceased Dog!!

image This has to be one of the sickest things I have EVER heard of!

Kimora Lee Simmons just showed she has lost her goddamn mind when she revealed her plans for her dead dog. She plans to turn him into JEWELLRY! Yes, people. J-E-W-E-L-L-R-Y! She is turning her precious dog into freakin' necklaces and bracelets and earrings!

Here are HER words:

There is a company that makes diamonds out of your loved ones. [They] make diamonds from a little of the carbon from the ash, so I might do that. I might turn her into a diamond.

She is INSANE! I mean, I guess Harry Winston is bit overrated, but really? You want to wear your incinerated dog on you, Kimora?

Russell, you better your ex-wife some therapy, STAT! Oh, and take the kids with you!

Corinne Bailey Rae's Husband Passes Away

image Corinne Bailey Rae's husband Jason Rae was found dead yesterday afternoon.

The 31-year old saxophonist was found by police in his home in West Yorkshire, England, according to BBC reports. Linked to the death is a 33-year old man was arrested on suspicion of selling drugs. He has since been released from jail on bail.

The Grammy-winning singer married Jason Rae in 2001. She became an international success in 2006 with release of her self-titled debut album. The Grammy-nominated album went Platinum in the US and Triple Platinum in the UK. She won her first Grammy in 2008 for work on Herbie Hancock's album River: The Joni Letters.

She was supposed to perform in Leeds today, but that was cancelled.

Her record label EMI has requested the public and press give Bailey Rae the time and space she needs to cope.

My condolences to Bailey Rae and her family during this difficult time.

Sunday Feature: Can There Be A Long-Lasting Girl Group?

image Over the weekend, rumors began to surface of heavy tension between UK group the Sugababes. The two principal members, Heidi Range and Keisha Buchanan were reportedly not speaking to each other during a party, straight up refusing to. Just a few days ago, I reported of Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle denying exit plans. With all of the girl group catfight drama, it leads one to ask, can a girl group last?

Honestly, no.

This is not the first time a girl group has been plagued with infighting. Since the girl group peak in the 60s, there has always been some tension between group members, and it tends to last. There was the infamous Diana vs. Mary war with The Supremes. Mary Wilson always fought with the lead singer Ms. Ross over what she thought was unfair treatment. She constantly accused her and Motown head Berry Gordy of treating Diana better than the others. The animosity hasn't let up since then. In the 80's, during the Motown Anniversary Special, Diana infamously pushed Mary out of the way (the footage was cut from the broadcast). When The Supremes planned a tour in the late 90s, Diana was reported receiving 4 times as much as Mary, leading Mary and fellow member Cindy Birdsong to quitting the tour. There have been no signs or reports of a reconciliation.

90's icons The Spice Girls promoted girl power, but the movement only lasted two years; Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell left the group surprisingly in 1998. The departure sent the group into a tailspin, and they disbanded three years later. They reunited in 2007, and held a 40-plus date World Tour. They appeared in UK commercials and even released a single (which flopped on both sides of the Atlantic), and it seemed like the group would actually remain together. Those hopes were dashed when the Spice Girls surprised everyone and cut their tour shut, angering fans in canceled cities like Sydney, Bueno Aires, and Cape Town. The cause this time? Reported fighting, although Victoria Beckham revealed she was the real cause (she wanted to be a fashion designer). Melanie C insists that the Spice Girls are still "together", but any chances of finishing their tour are slim to none.

Now, the two premier UK girl groups are rumored to be calling it quits; 10 years for the Sugababes and 6 for Girls Aloud. Their reigns are truly something to beheld; their bevy of top 10 singles and albums put them both in the record books. If what they insist is true and the groups aren't disbanding, it only leads to the questions of when. Unfortunately, it's not realistic to believe they will last like the Rolling Stones. Whether it's jealousy or creative differences, something tends to destroy the unity first formed in a girl group. History has dictated it, so as we enjoy when they push our buttons or call the shots, the writing is on the wall for them and all future girl groups.

UK Chart Update: Estelle Takes The Top, Madonna Debuts in Top 10!

image This week's UK Singles Chart #1 is Estelle, with her single "American Boy" with Kanye West. The song debuted at the top spot after an explosiong of downloads shot her up to the top spot in UK iTunes. Estelle pushed Duffy to #2, who was at the top for 5 weeks with "Mercy". Leona Lewis' charity single "Better in Time"was also pushed down one spot to #3.

Madonna's new single "4 Minutes" with Justin Timberlake charted at #7 on downloads alone. The single will be released internationally, including the US, on Tuesday.

Girls Aloud charted at #9 with "Can't Speak French", giving the group their 18th Top 10 single. The Sugababes, who were ahead of the group last week, stayed at #15 with "Denial".

Other notes:

Both OneRepublic and Nickelback stayed in their chart positions from last week, at #4 and #5 respectively.

UK Chart Update: Girls Aloud score 18th Consecutive Top 10 Single!

image

It's just been revealed on the Radio 1 Chart Show with Fearne and Reggie that Girls Aloud's 18th single "Can't Speak French" has charted at #9 after the physical single was released this past week! This gives the group their 18th CONSECUTIVE Top 10 single! Unfortunately, it's tied with 2005 single "See The Day" for their lowest chart position to date. It could still go up, so I wouldn't close the book just yet!

Congrats girls!

Video of the Week: Ellen Dancing to "4 Minutes"

I wasn't seriously going to let this one go!

On her show, Ellen Degeneres danced through the audience to Madonna's new single "4 Minutes". You gotta love Ellen. Some give their endorsements through words, she gives hers through dance. Here's the awesome clip:

Exclusive: Hear the Bleeding Love Remix Before the US Album Release!

The Jason Nevins remix of "Bleeding Love" is included of pre-order copies of Leona's US release of Spirit. Before its release, the song has leaked onto YouTube!

Here is the remix (I love it):

UNBelievable! Soulja Boy says his songs aren't sexual!

image In an interview with a British magazine, Soulja Boy, who topped the charts with his inescapable, 3-million-selling single "Crank That", insisted that his song are not sexual in any way.

According to Digital Spy UK, Soulja Boy said his lyrics were misunderstood and had no sexual connotations. When asked by Hot TV Magazine, he said that, "They've got it all wrong. People like to say my songs are sexual and that really gets to me."

What he is likely referring to is the lyric "superman that ho" from his mega-single "Crank That". Since its release, the lyric had many connotations, including one where a sexually-frustrated man should relieve himself on his sleeping lover.

He also regrets using the word "ho", "That's how I was raised, but it's not something I'm proud of. Since I've been in the music industry I've learnt from older people that it's not good to talk like that. I'm more careful now."

Since that lyric isn't sexual, what is the real meaning of "superman that ho"?

Do I buy this? I have no clue. If it means that his music will become less crappy, then sure I believe it!

First Listen: "Take a Bow" by Rihanna

Honestly, Ne-Yo never has to make a record again if he continues songwriting.

image For the re-release of Good Girl Gone Bad (despite her singles success, her album sales are B-A-D), Ne-Yo wrote her another song, titled "Take a Bow". The only thing annoying about the song is the title and the chorus. The whole "boyfriend/girlfriend is a liar, which means they're an actor" motif has been done so many times (most popularly by Madonna in 1995). I wish Ne-Yo he chose a different metaphor. Anyway, the song follows a string of really good songs by Rihanna. Many will probably call this a Beyonce knock-off but that is not the case. It's a lot slower in tempo, and far less severe. The mood of this song is very somber, without slipping into balladry. "Irreplaceable" was a big middle finger to all cheating boyfriends. "Take a Bow", much like Madonna's #1 smash, is more of a lament of her lost relationship. She's not kicking his ass like "Breakin' Dishes". Instead, she sounds tired of her boyfriend's cheating, and wants him to go. Rihanna can even find a bit of humor in the situation, slipping in a giggle as she considers her boyfriend's "act".

The fact that I can take so much away from a Rihanna song shows that this is very best vocal performance. I'm not going to gas her head up, she's no Whitney, Mariah, or Beyonce. But considering how tailored the song is for her voice, she can do nothing but truly shine. Honestly, as good as "Umbrella" and "Don't Stop The Music" are, I prefer the slower stuff, especially "Unfaithful". Producers Stargate, who are Rihanna's go-to production team, worked wonders with this song. The piano and simple beats are their trademark, but it sounds even better in this song. The fusion makes it versatile. It can be listened to as a groove or as a sad pseudo-ballad with a bowl of rocky road ice cream and Kleenex, which will definitely extend it's radio appeal.

For all the people who didn't buy the original album, this gem makes it worth your while to pick up the re-release.

RATING: 8/10

Until then, here is your "first listen":

LEONA VS. MARIAH VS. MADONNA! Who Will Top The Hot 100?

I originally did a post where it was a battle of Mariah Carey and Madonna (it has been my most viewed post so far, with people from 17 countries reading it), but that was before Leona Lewis rocketed into the Top 10 last week with "Bleeding Love". And that is before her sales doubled again when she appeared on Oprah! So, its going to truly be a chart battle for the record books! Who will take the crown? Leona Lewis, Madonna, or Mariah Carey?

Its a chart battle that hasn't been seen in America for a while! Three strong contenders with three strong songs that are guaranteed top sellers. In my opinion, here are the three divas' chances at the penthouse.

LEONA LEWIS WITH "BLEEDING LOVE"

image Ironically, not since Mariah Carey has a young woman's career looked so bright! Her single "Bleeding Love" is one of the biggest songs of the year; an almost guaranteed nominee for "Record of the Year" at next year's Grammys. Her voice has sent shockwaves throughout the masses here in America, who haven't heard a vocal powerhouse like hers since Celine Dion. In a matter of weeks, her single went from obscurity to the top of iTunes, outselling the 2 and 3 positions combined. Many will say it's Oprah, but she hit #1 even before the career-making performance. Even before the Oprah sales were added, she charted at #8, with sales of 120,000. Its safe to say with Oprah-influenced sales and the physical release, Leona has a VERY good chance of pushing into the Top 5, if not the #1 spot this week. And if she does, will she keep it? Can she hold off the two biggest releases of the spring? With her sales momentum and her ever-growing radio airplay, I think it's possible she will be "bleeding" success for a few weeks. CHANCES: 80%

MADONNA WITH "4 MINUTES"

image It's one of the most anticipated singles of the year. After weeks and months of speculation, "4 Minutes" with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake will be released digitally this week. In the UK, who had an early release, the song shot up into the Top 5 in the same day, and chances are, there will be a similar response. However, there are a lot of things to question. In 2005, when "Hung Up" was released, it didn't crack the Top 5, despite high downloads and #1 debuts across the globe. Can she have her first #1 since "Music" in 2000? Well, her chances are very good, since she has megaproducer Timbaland and pop prince Timberlake in her corner. The kink is the airplay, which, surprisingly, hasn't been as high as either Leona's or Mariah's. It may take a few weeks for it to catch up, but by then, the single sales could begin tap out. Its a very tricky predicament for the Material Mom, but I would never count Madonna out for the count. I mean, she was inducted into "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" in her first year of eligibility! That definitely says something! CHANCES: 70%

MARIAH CAREY WITH "TOUCH MY BODY"

image When it first came out, it was instantly a radio smash. With one day of radio airplay, it charted high on the R&B charts. With every week, she vaulted up the charts! But, there was one thing keeping her from the #1 spot: no single release. Finally, after a month of radio, "Touch My Body" will be released. Normally, I would say without a doubt she would chart at #1 the week she released. This is the same woman with a whopping 17 #1 singles, tying her with Elvis. If anyone could do it, she could it. However, today's public tend to get bored with music easily. With massive amounts of airplay and nothing to download, some buyers could be dissuaded from purchasing the guaranteed top 10 hit. Then, there is competition from a still fresh Madonna and Leona. As a Mariah lover, this pains me to say, but I'm not holding breath for a Mariah #1. CHANCES: 60%

WHAT READERS THINK: With 46 voters, 58% believe it will be Madonna sitting at the top. 26% think it will be Leona. Only 12% think Mariah could do it. There is still time to vote!

Introducing....UK Girl Groups (Part 2)

image The Sugababes have been together since 1998, if you can believe it. Actually, only Keisha Buchanan has been there since 1998, since the Sugababes are the UK Destiny's Child in terms of member changes.

Compared to their contemporaries Girls Aloud, Sugababes are funkier, dirtier, even a bit kinkier. Their biggest hit is "Push The Button" which has more sexual connotations than can be listed. Despite the sharper edge, the Ssugababes are still a pop group at heart, an exceptional pop group.

The Sugababes are more R&B influenced than anything else, which relly sets them apart. There is also their gorgeous harmonies that help break the mold. Evidence of their seamless voices can be heard in songs like "Ugly", "Change" and "Denial".

I am far more familiar with their latest stuff from their album "Change" than their old stuff, like when Mutya Buena was in the group. I think "Change" was horribly underrated. To me, it was a wonderful ballad, better than most these days. "Denial" is also one of my favorites on the album. However, I have also become familiar with their early work, specifically from Taller in More Ways and Three. On a funny note, I realized that "Too Lost In You" was actually on US soap As The World Turns a while back.

The girls have switched things up since their 1998 formation. In 2001, member Siobhan Donaghy left the group, being replaced by Heidi Range. In 2005, another founding member, Mutya Buena, left the group as well. She would be replaced by Amelle Berrabah. Keisha Buchanan is the group's only founding member.

Despite the switches, the Sugababes were able to keep those pitch-perfect harmonies. Vocally, their are in the top tier of all groups in this day and age.

BWU Recommends: Push The Button, Ugly, Hole in the Head, Denial, Change, and About You Now (the last three haven't been released in the US yet)

Girls Aloud Shocker! Is Nadine Leaving?

image Its kinda funny.

My last post was about them, and now I'm writing a principal member leaving!

Nadine Coyle, a member of popular UK group Girls Aloud, has been heavily rumored to be leaving the group very soon. The British tabloids have cited her absences from events like the BRIT Awards or Kimberly Walsh's sister's birthday party. She was even missing from Cheryl's presentation of her video with Will.i.am for the ITV2 show Passions of the Girls Aloud. All of the absences have many questioning whether or not Nadine is considering leaving the group to go solo, particularly in the United States. She and her family moved from Ireland to Los Angeles, where they own an Irish pub. Nadine also dated Desperate Housewives actor Jesse Metcalfe until their break-up in January.

Nadine, on the Girls Aloud MySpace, vehemently denied her leaving of the group. Here is her message:

"Anyway, I've heard all these things recently, I hate reading magazines because there are usually some strange things written, but I have to admit I like hearing all the gossip even if it is made up. So where was I...? That's right - things saying I'm leaving the band and quitting the UK for LA. That's just not true. A few years ago I went to LA with Sarah and Nicola to record a song. Instantly I loved the weather so I kept going back on holidays. My family loved it too and were moving there from Derry where I grew up. They have lived there since the beginning of last year. So I travel back and forth to see them in LA and be with the girls here."

Its not the first time that a GA member was allegedly leaving. Sarah Harding has been a multiple candidate for leaving the group.

I LOVE Nadine, so I hope she really means it that she's staying in the group!

Introducing...UK Girl Groups (Part 1)

There is a lot of talk that many European charts are filled with American music. I definitely don't think that's true. Yes, there are many American artists who cross over to Europe, but they, especially the UK, have amazing artists who rule the charts as Rihanna, Madonna, or Nickelback. One of the kingdoms in their music scene is Britpop. And who are the queens? Of course, the girl groups.

There are big differences between girl groups here in the US and girl groups in the UK. For one, UK groups are far more commercially viable. The two UK girl groups I'm featuring have lasted over five years!

The first group? Girls Aloud.

image

For nearly 6 years, these pop princesses have ruled the UK charts. Since their first single, "Sound of the Underground" in 2002, they have had an astonishing 17 Top Ten singles on the chart, making them the most successful girl group in UK Chart history (yes, more successful than the Spice Girls). They are also more innovative than the Spice Girls.

The group was formed on the reality show "Popstars: The Rivals". From then on, they have released 5 albums, including one greatest hits, and 18 singles. As the years went by, their sound evolved from just the simple pop sound. With help from UK super-producers Xenomania, they help change the meaning of the genre, with songs that seemingly encompassed every single corner. From the rock-tinged "Wake Me Up" to the syrupy balladry of "See The Day". From the mid-tempo slice of genius "Call the Shots" (hence the picture) to the hyper-dance craze of "Something Kinda Oooh" and "Sexy! No No No...". With each new single, they try something new and unexpected, setting them apart from the typical pop bands that riddled the late 90's.

On top of their production, the girls can actually sing (GASP!). My personal favorite is Nadine Coyle (the girl on the far right). Her voice is absolutely amazing (and I don't through that around often). Another amazing vocal comes from Nicola Roberts (girl next to Nadine). Her voice is unique; with a versatility and range that is much welcomed. Kimberly has a rich tone that gives her a powerful lower register. Cheryl has a great middle register that is showcased often. Sarah's voice fits perfectly with the girls' dance hits.

With great voices in general and great range in genres, they must put out some great songs, right? Absolutely!

My absolute favorite (and of the most played on my iPod) in "Call the Shots". Its one of the best pop songs I have heard, with one of the most catchy choruses of all time that don't annoy me. The girls sound stunning and the production is top-notch. Its much better than 1/2 the crap thats on the radio today. Their most innovative song has to be "Biology", from the 2005 Chemistry album. The song mixes different melodies, creating something truly different than the pop standard. The song that got me interested was "Something Kinda Oooh". Its a power-dance song with a driving, rock-influenced beat. The lyrics don't make any sense, but the danceability of the track makes up for it! It would get everyone and anyone in the club, or even at home, dancing.

I don't when they'll crack America, but they definitely should. Until then, every album up to their latest (with Call the Shots on it) has been released onto iTunes. I suggest getting yourself acquainted.

BWU Recommends:

Something Kinda Oooh, Biology, Sexy! No No No..., Whole Lotta History, and Call The Shots (when its released in the US)

AI Download of the Week: The Long and Winding Road by David Archuleta

image His voice is like milk.

Smooth, fluid, and pure. It's almost unbelievable that this kid is only 17 years old, and can sing like this.

His performance on Tuesday was easily the best, and the studio version of the song is just as good. In fact, studio magic makes it even sound better than the live version. One thing that I didn't necessarily care for is how he sticks straight to the melody. Just like Randy said, he could've easily ran the song up and down the road if he was so inclined. Any risk he took in the live version disappears in the recorded version, which makes it a bit safe. This, of course, doesn't take away from the powerful vocal prowess this kid possesses. He sounds pitch-perfect, just as he does live.

My suggestion for future Idol recordings is that he really takes vocal risks. We know he can sing the hell out of a song just on the melody. Now, diva it up a bit. In fact, David, go to YouTube and search "Whitney Live". She does it best!

Rating: 7/10

Mariah On TV!

After two so-so performances on SNL last week, Mariah's back on television, promoting her fragrance in a Macy's commercial! Here's a secret; I actually love the Macy's commercials, and this one is really no different.

Some advice to Mariah: why don't you do a duet with Santana instead of T-Pain? That would be far more innovative and interesting!

UNBelievable! Rick and Taylor's Kiss...In Front of Brooke!

It's every parent's worst nightmare. Their son comes to the aid and defense of their biggest archrival, and then, declares love for them and kisses them, passionately!

It's not? Well, it is for Brooke.

On Wednesday's Bold and the Beautiful, Brooke Logan Forrester x8 and Taylor Hayes (technically Marone, but they're divorcing) got into it again when Brooke caught Taylor warning her away from fiancee Ridge. Then, Brooke's son jumped into the fight and stood up for the alcoholic, lonely Taylor. When Brooke asked why, he went on this long speech about Taylor's goodness and how Brooke has wronged her. Then, turning to Taylor, dropped the L word: LOVE. Then, in a moment that will probably be seared in to Brooke's mind for eternity, Rick heavily kisses Taylor, his mom's biggest competition for Ridge.

This may sound demented, but I don't feel bad for Brooke at all! Hey, if Brooke can dip into a younger generation (Hello Deacon!), then why can't Taylor? OK, so yes, Rick is Brooke's son, but hey, at least Brooke can't steal him away.

Oh, and I didn't buy a word of Rick's speech. Yes, it was sweet, but he was only trying to get some from Taylor. He works just like his mother in that way!

I'm a go for "Trick"!

The Biggest Song in the World Is....

"Bleeding Love"!

Leona Lewis charted at the top of this week's United World Chart, which tracks songs from many countries, and compiles the most popular one mega list. After sitting at #2 last week, her US sales promptly pushed her into the penthouse position!

Congrats Leona!

The #2 song of the world is "Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna.

One Tree Hill 100th Episode Recap!

image It's the episode that fans had been waiting for.

Last night, One Tree Hill, one of the CW's most successful shows, aired their 100th episode to much speculation about what would happen. Honestly, almost anything could have happened. Instead, all of the predictable things happened.

Don't get me wrong; yesterday's episode was absolutely fantastic. However, most of the things that occurred I had already expected (spoiler-free BTW). I knew there was no way in hell that Lucas and Lindsay would marry (and Lucas is too much of a wimp to break up with her, so she had to do it). I also figured that the psycho nanny Carrie would do something psycho, so kidnapping Jamie was right up that alley. Plus, if Jamie was kidnapped, I knew Nathan and Haley would bond over the devastating experience.

What I didn't expect was some of the craziest stuff that happened! Dan choking psycho witch Nanny Carrie was ingenious! (I wish he finished the job!). I also wasn't expect Karen to return with her Season 2 beau Andy! Then, there was Brooke's baby-filled future. Seriously, what? It's obivious she only wants a baby to fill the hole her mother left, which is never a good thing. The question is, who will be the baby daddy? Lucas? Owen? Chase? Nathan??

But the biggest shocker of all? Dan walking in to the Naley household after a rescued Jamie leaps into his mother's arms! The looks on everyone's faces (especially Karen's) were truly priceless! Then the bastard Mark Schawn had to leave it there, forcing all of us to wait 3 weeks!!

One of the best cliffhangers ever!

The Leona Hating Continues!

image First Jamelia, and now Kate Nash!

Kate Nash, who stunned many by beating Leona Lewis for the Best British Female award at the BRITs, is going on the offensive, by attacking Leona! The indie artist, who is also trying to join the wave of female British artists trying to crack the US, said in a statement:

"Leona seems like a really nice girl. But I think it was really good I won it because I started this myself. I'm not a manufactured, size-zero pop artist who is going to bring out her own perfume and clothes range."

This really starting to annoy me, especially since I really like "Foundations", Nash's first big hit in the UK. Just because she got her start on a reality show does NOT mean she is a manufactured artist, nor does it mean she didn't work as hard!

Leona got up in front of thousands of people in a studio and millions watching at home EVERY week and sang LIVE! If anything, she worked just as hard to get where she was. With her massive popularity, they could've easily rush-released an album of crap in a month. Instead, she took her time, working HARD to truly create an album she would be proud of. For God's sake, you don't have to like her, but at least have some class and respect, like she does.

And BTW, speaking of being a role model, I don't see Kate Nash flying off to a country to try and provide help to a large group of people who need it!

Still love "Foundations" (it may be a Download of the Day), but Hop off!

Best and Worst of the iTunes Chart 3/20

Lil Wayne's Lollipop at #2 - I don't know why the hell this song is #2 at all. At least there is a great distance between this trash and "Bleeding Love". If you haven't bought it yet, please, save your cash. Rating: 3/10

Lil Mama's Shawty Get Loose at #3 -
Apart of me believes I shouldn't like this song, but I actually do. I think Chris Brown saves this song from the same thing that made me dislike the hyper -annoying "Lip Gloss". Also, Lil Mama sounds a little less like a petulant child and more like a confident young woman who knows her way around a mic. Rating 6.5/10

Chris Brown's With You at #13 -
Surprisingly, I haven't reviewed this song yet, and now, it's currently slipping down the chart. This is one of, if not the, best song he has ever put out. Its romantic without being sleazy, the guitar in the background (a la Irreplacable) is a great addition, and his voice is at its strongest and most versatile. More so that "Kiss Kiss" or "Run It", this song deserved the #1 spot that Flo Rida kept from him for so long. Rating 8/10

Gnarls Barkley's Going On at #22 -
Too little fanfare, Gnarls Barkley released their latest album, The Odd Couple. The most popular song is this one, and really really like this song. It's very funky, much like Outkast's Hey Ya. No one can ever call these two boring, and neither is this song! Rating: 7.5/10

Billboard Chart Update: Usher Atop Again, Leona Zooms into Top 10

On this week's Billboard Hot 100, Usher's Love In This Club remains #1 for a 3rd week, giving him his most successful single since "Yeah!" in 2004. The rest of the Top 7 remained the same. The biggest sales gainer was Leona Lewis, who went from #21 to #8, making "Bleeding Love" her first US top ten hit. Her sales have doubled from last week, equaling 120,000 copies. She is currently #2 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.

Lil Mama's collaboration with Chris Brown, "Shawty Get Loose" rises meteorically from #92 to #19, with approximately 92,000 downloads sold since its release.

Disney phenom Miley Cyrus hits a new peak with her top 10 iTunes single "See You Again", charting at #11.

Mariah Carey, who's releasing "Touch My Body" next week, only rose up two spots to #14.

The "Hot Shot Debut" belongs to Danity Kane, whose single "Damaged" charted at #64 this week.

If It's Your Thing...The Jonas Brothers Announce New Tour

For those who like the Jonas Brothers (I don't, sorry), good news! They have just announced a new tour titled the "Burning Up Tour". It will take place during the summer and they will play far bigger venues than before, including the illustrious Madison Square Garden here in New York. The 36-date tour is being presented by Live Nation, which just signed a landmark deal with the group a few months ago.

You can purchase the tickets (when they become available) from either Ticketmaster or the Live Nation website.

Download of the Day: American Boy by Estelle

image This song, after only a day, shot up to #1 on the UK iTunes chart.

Its funny because Americans have the song since January. I guess this was the song that was supposed to break UK R&B diva Estelle here in the States. It still could, and it should.

Its a great song, a very great song. Kanye is top form on the record, as he usually is when collaborates. Estelle, like Amy, Leona, and ADELE, has a voice that I think American MUST here. She has soft voice that has a very cool vibe and conviction, perfect for the old-school R&B she seems to like to perform.

The song itself is kind of fun. It pretty much about this European girl asking her American boyfriend to give her a tour of the States. From New York to LA, its not really feasible, but hey, a girl can dream, right?

Anyway, the British girl invasion continues with this song, and I am sure she will follow Leona and Amy's American success with this song. If she does fit here, its going to be an interesting Grammys next year (wink, wink).

You HAVE To Be KIDDING ME! Kristy stays AGAIN?!?!

Is this some kind of joke??

First Asia'h, then David Hernandez, and now Amanda?

When is this going to END??

In a weird bottom three tonight was Carly Smithson, Amanda Overmyer, and Kristy Lee Cook. The obvious choice to go home? Kristy Lee Cook. Who goes home?

AMANDA!

Amanda, who is really, really great. Amanda, who is one billion times more interesting than Kristy. Amanda, the cool bluesy rocker chick, goes home instead of the girl who should have.

Is Kristy Lee Cook supposed to be the new Sanjaya?

Come on, voters! Get it right; send her home next week!

The Claws are Out! Hoxton Heroes by Girls Aloud

image Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I was able to hear the b-side for Girls Aloud's latest single "Can't Speak French". Let me just say, damn, damn, damn.

The UK pop divas came out swinging hard with this song, so controversial that it was left off of their album Tangled Up. Apparently, they are fighting back against all of the indie bands who have criticized them over the years as being manufactured crap. Well, the girls fight back with some pretty hot comeback lines. Here are some excerpts from the song:

"Don't know your name, you're just another band with a different game."

"Don't kid yourself, you're an indie clone. We've seen it before, get a sound of your own."

"You could make history, if you just stayed off the whiskey."

"You might just look like a rock star, but how much soul did it cost ya?"

Ouch!

I am LIKING this side of Girls Aloud! Feisty, bitchy (in a good way), and strong. Plus, the song is actually really good.

Leona Update! TOP 10 SUCCESS!

The Billboard Hot 100 has been leaked, and its been revealed that Leona has hit a new peak of #8! That's even higher than my expectations! On the Pop 100, Leona enters the Top 5, peaking at #4!

With her extremely high sales this week, the chances of a #1 US hit for Leona are getting better and better!

Don't forget to pre-order Leona's debut album Spirit on either iTunes or Amazon.com!

Dancing with The Stars Sex Scandal!

It's being reported that Dancing with the Stars winner Drew Lachey allegedly had an affair with his partner Cheryl Burke during the DWTS tour. Lachey, brother of Nick Lachey, is married with a 2-year old daughter. Cheryl Burke, who has won the show twice, is currently dating Matthew Lawrence, the brother of DWTS contestant and actor Joey Lawrence.

According to reports, on a stop in Florida, Matthew caught Drew and Cheryl performing oral sex when he went to her dressing room to pick up something. The next day, Drew allegedly threatened both Matthew and Joey about keeping quiet about what was seen.

Both Drew and Cheryl are denying the alleged affair, but Matthew was far more ambigious with Star Magazine, stating that "There are too many things going on. I can't talk about it."

More will posted as details are revealed

LEONA'S IN THE TOP 2!!!

Although the official charts won't be released until tomorrow, its been revealed that Leona Lewis has made the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, with sales of over 120,000 copies of "Bleeding Love". Note that this is for last week, meaning that she will probably hit #1 after this week's monster sales!

Congrats Leona on your first Top 5 single!

You've Gotta Be Kidding Me! Mariah's New Album Cover!

image Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything clever, like Mariah as a scientist mixing musical notes together in a beaker, or something like that, but in my honest opinion, this is really lazy. I mean, she is just standing there, with some kind of fur wrapped around her. Then again, most of her album covers have been of her posing, so, I guess it works.

Any thoughts?

Leona Update! US Album Sales

Currently, Leona Lewis' album Spirit is at #21 on the iTunes, on pre-orders alone! Pre-ordering the Deluxe version will get you an extra remix of the song, so if you want to, go and pre-order the album today.

If you prefer, Spirit, will be released on April 8th, so you can either download it straight away or go to the stores and buy the physical CD.

On the iTunes singles chart, her song is still leaps and bounds above the #2 single, "Shawty Get Loose", implying at least 1/3 more sales.

Keep it up, people! She can get to #1 by next week!
